We have been fortunate enough to connect with the Leah aka “Head Hot Mess Mama at Mother Snacker”, on two different occasions.  Over cups of delicious coffee, we were able to discuss everything from our kids to the subscription box industry, which has given us a very good idea of what her box is all about.  Two things to mention, Mother Snacker is all about women supporting women and they are committed to giving back to the community.  How do they accomplish those goals?  They curate first from female-owned business and entrepreneurs and they donate 1% of their profits to non-profit groups who focus on helping mothers and children. In 2018 they are supporting a local non-profit, Babies of Homelessness.

People talk about the joys of motherhood, but no one really talks about the challenges and daily struggles.  It is easy to sink into a depression and think that you are the only one out there that struggles with things such as sleep deprivation, teething, and all the huge emotions that come from being a mother.  The Mother Snacker box was formed to let other moms know that they are not alone and it is ok if “mommin ain’t easy”.  They are making it okay for moms everywhere to take a break, enjoy a dessert, and get right back into the ring.

Inspirational Quote CardsPalm to Pine Design

One of the ways I get through daily stresses is by surrounding myself with affirmations.  My cubicle looks like a Pinterest board, proudly displaying motivational quotes.  Seeing quotes like “She turned her can’ts into cans” on a daily basis helps me keep plugging along.  Needless to say, I was downright giddy as I was reading these cards.  I love the bright colors and the thick card stock that was used.  To top it off, Palm to Pine donates $5 from every sale of these cards (set of 16) to the Team Lilly Foundation, which assists childhood cancer warriors.  How great is it to get an amazing product AND help a deserving non-profit?

Girl, Wash Your Face (hardcover) By Rachel Hollis

Retail Value: $13.78Girl, Wash Your Face

I don’t take enough time to sit and enjoy a good book.  However, I have made it a goal to read at least 30 minutes, once a week.  That isn’t much, but I have to start with an attainable goal.  This book as made it easy to blow that target out of the water.  I love the uplifting message of this book.  I am in control of my life.  Sometimes I need to hear that.  It is a great reminder to really focus on myself and really watch how my internal voice is shaping my world.

Kona Brownie – Salt of the Earth Bakery

Retail Value: $4.99

True story, after filming the unboxing video (uninterrupted by my 4-year-old son), I couldn’t wait to try these brownies.  As I am opening the plastic, my son runs around the corner with a “What’s that?  Can I have some!?!”  Being that there was espresso in these brownies I was able to tell him no without a shred of guilt as I devoured these.  Besides the Little Debbie brownies I ate as a kid, I have never given packaged brownies a shot.  This treat was the perfect balance of sweet and salty that I longed for.   They tasted fresh and were incredibly soft.  Also, I saw on their website that they actually make a few varieties that I will need to try in the future.

Dark Chocolate Almonds – Skinny Dipped

Retail Value: $4.49

Since my son was disappointed in not trying the brownies, I decided to let him try some of these chocolate almonds.  He loved them so much he asked me to add them to his Christmas list, “these would be perfect in my stocking…make sure to tell Santa!”  He didn’t even notice that there was less sugar in these (sucker!).  While this box is supposed to be about mothers taking a break, I like that there are treats large enough to share with our loved ones.  Should they be so lucky.  Back to the almonds, since these are only lightly dusted in chocolate, they have a much better flavor than the typical heavily coated almonds that I have tried in the past.  Santa will definitely be putting a bag of these in each of our stockings.  I actually already ordered a bag in each flavor (helllllo espresso!).

OPI Nail Lacquer – Tiramisu for Two

Retail Value: $10.59

I am a nail polish geek and OPI is my all time favorite brand.  The quality really can’t really be beaten.  The color in this box is perfect for two reasons, the dessert name and the current trend of nude tones.  Let me tell you how this polish gave me a much-needed break.  I was only going to paint one nail to test the product and coloring.  But it was so smooth and pretty that I decided to “quickly” paint all of my nails.  Now I was just about done with my last nail when my son asked for a snack.  Yes, he walked right by my husband to ask me to get him a snack.  Since my nails were still wet,  I ever so sweetly asked my husband to help him as I sat and watched paint dry.  And that is how this box is giving me a much-needed break.

Chocolate Almond Coconut Delights – Smackaroons

Retail Value: $12.50

Just when I thought this box couldn’t get any better, I opened my first package of Smackaroons.  This time, I made sure no one else was around.  I love coconut so I knew there was a chance I might not want to share these treats.  However, these were so incredibly delicious that I actually saved the second package to let my husband and son try them too.  I always like to make sure I’m not exaggerating when I’m in love with a new snack since I tend to “love” everything sweet.  My husband and son agreed that these need to be new a constant in our pantry.   The outside was a nice crunchy texture while the inside was very soft and chewy.  I wasn’t expecting the added almond taste but loved it.  I also really liked that I actually know what every ingredient is, coconut, egg whites, sugar, flour, pecans, almond extract, salt, spices, dark chocolate.  No chemicals or funky words that I can’t pronounce…just straight up wholesome goodness.

90 Second FacialBasik

Retail Value: $3

Who are we? Moms!  What do we want? A rejuvenated face in under 2 minutes!  This is THE product to meet our demands.  This handmade, vegan facial cream worked wonders on my skin.  My skin hasn’t looked this soft or bright in years.  I really am not huge on anything other than cleansers since most products I have tried don’t give me a noticeable improvement.  The 90 Second Facial is unlike anything I have tried before.  I am so excited to order more of these and am ecstatic that there was a 20% off coupon included for me to use.  I just wished Basik sold this product in larger containers since I feel like using these small packets will be a waste of packaging.

Cala Dual Action Facial Brush

Retail Value: $12.99

In keeping with the ‘Girl Wash Your Face’ theme, this dual action facial brush was included in this month’s box.  I love how lightweight this brush is and how easy it is to use.  The bristles are so soft and the silicone side is perfect for a deep clean.  This product makes washing my face a breeze.  Which is good, since my son randomly tells me, “girl, wash your face” now as I sit down with my new book.

Overall

I am not one to splurge on myself.  I am the mom that is always buying stuff for others but waits until there are holes in her socks to buy new ones.  Why do we do that?  The older I get the more I realize that I can’t pour from an empty cup.  Taking time to myself is a gift that everyone will appreciate in the long run.  This box delivers the break that every mother deserves.  Every month the subscriber is reminded that she matters, that someone is out there looking out for her, and that it is okay to hide in the pantry and eat chocolate while hiding during an intense game of hide and seek with her son.  I can’t be the only one.  I love that the products included in this box are ones that I would never in a million years buy for myself.  A $5 brownie?  Remember I am the mom that doesn’t spend money on herself….these products feel like an extravagant treat.  However, $49 a month doesn’t sound bad when it saves my sanity.
