This month’s theme is “Sunny Okinawa”, which is described in the Bokksu insert as:
This month’s tropical vibe is just what I needed! This PNW Summer has been lacking in sun, but digging into some treats from a sunny island allowed me to pretend to be there. The classic orange Bokksu box is back this month. It is a sturdy box that I’m able to upcycle them around the house. Another thing that I really like about Bokksu is the mini-magazine. Each month my family and I enjoy learning more about Japan and the Japanese culture. Learning through food is something I can truly get behind.
Sweet Treats
Being the sweet tooth that I am, I always look forward to the unique sweets from Bokksu. This month, my favorites were the Candied Walnuts and the Black Sugar Bread. However, all the sweets were delicious in their own way. For instance, I never thought I would love a matcha chocolate chip cookie, but Bokksu proved me wrong. The treats they send each month are not only delightful but so unique that I can’t just go out and buy some. But with my Bokksu subscription, I can log into their marketplace and buy the treats in bulk! That is a huge bonus.
Savory Treats
In my last review, I stated that Bokksu is typically light on savory snacks. This month I was pleasantly surprised that they seemed to include more in the way of salty goodness! I’m not sure that I can pick a favorite this month. All three items were equally scrumptious. However, the heat from the Chili Oil Chips was delightful.
Tea
This jasmine tea was the perfect morning treat. The floral notes taste sweet, however, is then followed up by the green tea taste to balance it out. This is one of my new favorite teas.
Overall
Bokksu is my favorite is still my favorite snack box! The snacks are very unique and I love that I get to try all the yummy Japanese treats. My family and I look forward to our box each month. The price went up about $5 a month, however, I still feel like overall it is a good value. If you are thinking about subscribing, head to their website and check out what the next theme is, typically they also list what snacks will be included, so you can see if you think it will be a good fit for you!
