If you have been a reader for a while, you know that my husband tends to enjoy home-based dates versus the standard dress up and going out type dates. We both work more than full-time hours outside the home so really try to spend the little time we get as a family, to include our son. DateBox is able to give us the best of both worlds by providing us the tools and ideas we need to have a date while our son is snug in bed. This months theme was Fondue For Two Under the Stars.
See the photos above for the inserts that came in our box. I like that they gave an option for a cheese fondue versus the chocolate version that came with the box. We did stick with the chocolate this time around since that is what came with the box, however, I know my husband will appreciate the cheese date on the next go around. Included in the welcome booklet was a Spotify playlist for our date which I thought was really cute, but my husband thought was cheesy.
Also included were star charts and information for an app to look help us find the various constellations. Unfortunately for us, there has been non-stop smoke from wildfires in the area so we haven’t had a chance to go outside and do this part of the date. Since the fondue pot is something we can enjoy, again and again, we plan of replicating this date and including the star gazing later this Fall. I will be sure to update this post at that time.
Moving onto the sweet stuff, our box included a glass fondue kit, a tealight candle, chocolate morsels, evaporated milk, mini marshmallows, a Rice Krispy treat, and a card game called Dip. The only item I added to our fondue spread was strawberries. I was really excited to get a fondue kit since I have never actually made fondue at my house. The instructions for melting the chocolate were very helpful and my sauce turned out great. I made the chocolate sauce and cut up the goodies while my husband tucked our son in and we were both ready to sit down at about the same time.
My husband isn’t really into eating sweets so he stuck mostly with the strawberries while I gorged on the marshmallows covered in sprinkles. We both really enjoyed the included card game, “Dip”. Basically, if you dripped or dropped while eating you had to take a card and complete the truth or dare. I am pretty clumsy so basically I was pulling a card every bite, which my husband thought was pretty hysterical.
Overall
I really liked that there are items that we can reuse for future in home dates. The fondue kit will be something we will use multiple times for date nights as well as fun with our son. The card game will be boxed up with our fondue kit so my husband can poke fun at me again and again. For the price of the box, this was a really fun date night. I really like that we can enjoy it on our schedule without having to set up a babysitter. We look forward to checking out the star charts this fall and will keep you up to date on how that went.
