This review is of the second box in the Dispatch Kids series. When we ended Part I, we had figured out where Johnny lost his coin on the playground. In this box, we attempt to track it down and get it back. As mentioned, my son couldn’t wait to start this box and had the contents pulled out minutes after solving Part 1. He loved the artwork on the box and said it felt like a special package just for him from his new buddy, Johnny.
Included in the box was a helpful checklist to make sure you have all the clues to solve the box. That is incredibly helpful for my son and I since right off the bat it got us familiar with the contents of the box. We also recieved an updated letter from Johnny that recaps how he lost his coin and what clues we can use to track it down over the course of this box.
One item in the box that my son enjoyed was the connect the dots. We haven’t really used these wax sticks in the past, so it was very unique for us. Although he solved it very quickly, he still thought it was fun bending and playing with the sticks.
Our box was missing the “Ice Cream Card” so on the first part of the puzzle we did some guess and check to start our box. We headed to the website listed in our letter and arrived at the below webpage. My son started by guessing his favorite flavor and turns out he was right the first try!
Once we got past that screen we were instructed to send Mr. Wallace a message. Even though my son knew what message he SHOULD send, he decided to play with the other options first to see what response he would get. He really liked being in control of the laptop and playing along with all the online puzzles.
As to not spoil the entire box, I have skipped ahead a bit in the adventure. My son used clues, flashcards, and good old investigative skills to help Mr. Wallace gather all of his ingredients for this ice cream recipe in order to get a special code from him. Once we got the code he used it to reveal where Mr. Wallce and his ice cream truck were heading next. With the hope of meeting up with him to get Johnny’s coin back.
Once we got the code from Mr. Wallace we were able to determine where his next stop would be. Our journey will be complete after Part III, once we catch up to the ice cream truck and Mr. Wallace and collect Johnny’s coin. This second box took us about 20 minutes to solve. Once again, my son’s favorite part was hearing the messages from Johnny and Mr. Wallace. He thought it was really neat that they were talking to him. And again, we started Part III right after finishing Part II. I will ask our readers to be patient however, as our review of Part III won’t be released until next month.
Stay tuned! We will be reviewing this entire box set in the coming months.
