Overview

I have been on and off KETO for about three years now.  At this moment, I am fully back on the plan and am working hard to keep it that way.  After years of experience, it is fairly easy to meal plan.  However, I have found myself in a rut of making the same old dishes.  When I heard that Factor_ had prepared meals that could help me stay on track, while also shaking up my routine, I knew I had to give them a try.  After browsing their website, I noticed the meals were a bit higher in carbs than I strive for.  However, I figured if I lowered carbs on my other meals throughout the day, I could still make it work.  So I went for it.

Meals

I was sent six meals that would fit into my KETO lifestyle.  The food was well packed in an insulated box with four ice packs.  Feel free to watch our unboxing video to see more about how the food was packaged.  Since I’m working from home, I was able to immediately put the items into the fridge and they all looked to be good condition.  I noticed that the meals would last one week, which gave me a perfect amount of time to eat one a day.  I decided to eat them for lunches since then I could adjust my dinners to still fit my daily carb limits.

Warming the meals was astonishingly easy, and I had the choice to microwave or put them in the oven.  Every single meal was amazing.  If I had to pick my favorite I would go with the Queso Fundido.  This is wild, because looking at it isn’t something I would typically choose, but the flavor was perfect.  Normally I’m extremely picky about salmon and based on the look of the crusted salmon, I was sure I wouldn’t like it.  However, I was glad I didn’t judge it based on looks, because it ended up being rather tasty.  The portion sizes were much bigger than I expected.  I ended up sharing a bit from each meal with my son since he was curious about what they tasted like.  Even with sharing, I was incredibly full after each lunch.  Another thing that I really liked was the variety of different meats and veggies.  Mixing between pork, chicken, beef, and salmon helped keep me from getting bored.  The veggies were incredibly fresh and served in ways that I wouldn’t have thought to prep for myself.  Hello zucchini noodles, I’m talking to you!

Add Ons

Factor_ was kind enough to also send over a mix of their available add-ons to help give my readers a better idea of the choices they will have upon checkout.  Included in my box were their Vanilla Keto Cheesecake, Wellness Shots, and Cold Pressed Juices.

Their Vanilla Keto Cheesecake ($19.99) is a low-carb cheesecake.  Anyone that has been on Keto, knows that there are some fairly simple Keto cheesecake recipes.  Typically I make a cheesecake ball recipe so I don’t even have to mess with the crust.  However, I have been missing having a legit cheesecake (crust and all).  The crust was perfection, and offset the rich cheesecake and sliced almonds.  My husband, who doesn’t follow Keto, gave it a try and couldn’t even tell that it was low carb.  I noticed this tray included six servings and each serving was 5 net carbs.  I’m not sure if the picture portrays just how big the servings are, but I ended up with twelve servings and was satisfied with each one.  I would happily buy this cheesecake in the future.  It felt like I was cheating, without the next day’s guilt.

When I opened the Wellness Shots ($23.99/6 Pack), I knew these would be made for me.  The mini bottles are as refreshing as they are adorable.  The Live Greens mix had a strong lemon and celery taste.  While the Cayenne Cleanse shots had a nice spicy kick to them.  I can’t judge if they were effective based on only six shots, however, I can say they were delicious and left me feeling like I was treating my body right.

The last add-on included in my box was their Cold Pressed Juices ($22/4 Pack).  I am a sucker for Cold Pressed Juice and have been craving it lately.  While these juices contained more sugar than I aim for, I went ahead and tried them over the course of two weeks.  My favorite one was Apple Kale Wheatgrass.  It was so much sweeter than I expected, but it was also extremely refreshing.  The Pineapple Tumeric Basil and Carrot Orange Ginger were delightful and invigorating.   I didn’t care for the Apple Beet Ginger, it felt like there was too much going on with the flavor.  Even though I wasn’t a fan of the Apple Beet Ginger, I still admit that it was refreshing and quenched my thirst during the PNW heatwave this week.  Since I try to follow Keto, I most likely wouldn’t add these to a future order, however, once I’m in maintenance mode they would make a wonderful weekly “treat”.

Overall

I headed to the Factor_ website to check how much this box would cost a subscriber.  Keeping in mind the portion sizes, quality, and convenience, I would say that the meals are fairly priced.  The add-ons added up faster than I expected though.  The total came out to more than I would likely spend.  Personally, I would opt for only the meals and occasionally add in the wellness shots for a fun extra.

I can honestly say that Factor_ is my new favorite meal subscription service.  They not only make it easy for subscribers to stay on track with Keto but also Paleo and Plant-Based diets.  Many times these are underserved subscribers, and I really like that Factor_ is an option.  Their food is unmatched in taste, quality, and freshness.  The only barrier I see for subscribers would be the price to continue this subscription for a long length of time.  I would use this service to fill in gaps when I notice myself getting burned out from cooking.  Now that is what I call self-care!
