Hey everyone, Noelle here. I was fortunate enough to get to try out the box this month with my daughter Norah. The theme of this month’s box was World Traveler, and immediately I was impressed with all the details on the box, and how colorful everything was.
As always, Scout, the mascot, gave us an insight into what we should expect for this month’s box. I love how he looks like a real tourist. Norah also loved his sunglasses.
Let’s Fly to Tanzania! Activity
The first activity we decided to complete was the passport project that would take us to Tanzania. Included were all the items we needed to begin our journey!
First up we constructed our camera because really, what good trip is good without a camera?
I had to do most of the assembly for this due to Norah’s age but, I could see older kids being able to do this solo. She liked snapping pictures and “looking” through the lens, once we crafted it. She is still playing with it to this day.
Next, Norah wanted to fill out her passport. I loved that Kid Wonder included this dry erase marker so we could fill this out together.
I think she looks like me – what do you think?
We also filled out a boarding pass for all of our adventures. Norah got to choose all the options, which was really fun. She needed a bit of help because she really just wanted to draw another picture of herself.
After that, we constructed our suitcase, so we could finally make our way to Tanzania as our first stop.
I was quite impressed with all the details that were included in this activity. Also, the suitcase is made of felt so it’s nothing that will last for the long haul but, we are going to put some toys in it so Norah can continue to play with it for a while!
Next, we moved on to the game/question portion of the activity. While my daughter is on the younger side, she recognized most of the animals and liked playing this game. She loves giraffes and we recently saw one at our local zoo so she was pretty excited to point that one out to me. She also didn’t really know what a cheetah was, but, she told me he was “very cute!”
After we completed this, we placed our sticker in my daughter’s passport. I love how there was so much information included. I really enjoy teaching Norah about different languages, countries, cultures, etc. and I liked how I could talk to her more in-depth about Tanzania.
Let’s Fly to Japan! Activity
On our next part of our adventure, it was off to Japan we went! I apologize but, I inadvertently realize I did not get a photo of the Japan passport but, this activity also came with some handouts, and a project to complete.
As you can see, the project we had was to make sushi! Kid Wonder graciously supplied everything we needed to complete this activity, as well as teaching Norah how to properly hold chopsticks.
It wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be to mold these sushis. Norah was more interested in making her own thing than the sushi so our first try was interesting to say the least…ha.
However, I was able to help her make a few of the pieces shown on the instruction card. Don’t they look almost good enough to eat?
Let’s Fly to Mexico! Activity
Off to Mexico, we go! Our first activity was to read and learn more about salsa dancing! Cute and fun! We also worked on counting in English & Spanish. Norah is able to count to 15, so she really liked learning how to count in Spanish. I love that this was included so she could learn something brand new.
After we worked on this for a bit (and had a lot of fun dancing around), we began to curate our next craft – decorating maracas!
Again, I love how Kid Wonder graciously supplied everything needed. My only negative thing to say about the supplies is the apron they provided to paint in was really weird, or maybe we received a ripped one? It wasn’t possible to wrap it around Norah, so I opted to use the one we already have. I love how we also have a new paintbrush and fresh paint left over from the activity to use in the future.
She loved painting her maraca and also painting on the paper mat that was supplied. She is such a little artist, and I love that I can always have someone to do some arts & crafts with. I don’t do them often, but, she’s just like me – she gets really into them!
Let’s Fly to France! Activity
Our last stop on the journey included going to France! I love French culture, and I enjoyed getting to read more about France with Norah. I also knew, once I discovered the contents, that she would have a blast painting again.
The art part of this activity was to copy Monat, and have your child draw with their fingers a replica of the painting pictured below. I also loved how the primary colors were explained on this instruction insert. Norah didn’t quite get it – but thought it was fun to mix things!
So my child has a thing with her fingers being messy. She always wants a napkin or a wipe to clean her hands which I definitely love but, obviously makes this project more difficult! She used the brush it came with instead which was still fun for her.
One thing I kind of messed up on was I mixed too much blue in with the yellow paint. It made it hard to replicate the lighter green but, we still were able to lighten it up as best we could which made it fun.
Here is the final painting. I helped a little bit but, it’s a very good thing I am not an art teacher! Also, if you close your eyes and use your imagination, it’s basically the same exact painting! (I wish)
The next two activities we did were great because we’ve been working with Norah a lot on her alphabet and counting. We were given two handouts. One involved tracing letters and the other matching upper and lower case. I did have to help her a lot with the tracing and that frustrated her into a meltdown, so I had her point to the uppercase/lower case letters for the second exercise so she would get back into the groove.
Overall Thoughts
Overall, this box never disappoints us. I’m simply blown away and amazed at how great this box is for kids and how they’re able to make learning fun. Parents, this box is absolutely PERFECT children age 3 – 6. If you are looking for different activities to help enrich your child’s learning, Kid Wonder will definitely be a box you want to subscribe to. It does take some time and dedication to complete all the activities but, the nice part is, some of the stuff can be completed on different days if you’re in a time crunch. I also love how each month is a different theme and you don’t know what you will receive! I’m really glad I was able to review this month’s box and I hope you all consider giving Kid Wonder a try!
