I have to admit I was a little nervous upon receiving this box. Why you might ask? Well, for one, I’m not really the crafty or DIY kind of person. I try but, alas, it’s just never been my kind of thing. I can be creative and unique with makeup all day but, when it comes to following recipes or similar things, I tend to not be great at it. However, I’ve always thought of creating environmentally-friendly and toxic-free products so I was very happy to review this box!

As Abby previously mentioned in her review…“The first month (and every 6 months after) you are sent a Bonus Box along with the monthly Simply Earth box.  The bonus box contains carrier oils, coconut oil, beeswax, and the containers that you will need for the next six month’s recipes. ”

Abby was sure to lend me the bonus box in case I needed any supplies out of it.  I did end up using a few of the items in this box for some of the recipes. It is very helpful that this is given to every subscriber.

Moving on to the December Essential Oil Box, the recipes included in this box were very much geared towards the holidays which I absolutely love!

I also love that all of the inserts had information on the back and found this particularly awesome because it not only saves on paper which is better for our environment but, it was less stuff to keep track of.

Simply Earth also includes labels for each of the recipes. This was helpful for me so I could remember exactly what was in each container.

Now let’s get down to the recipes!

Citrus Christmas Room Spray

This was probably the easiest recipe for me and from a first glance, I knew I had everything right on hand so I dove right into this. I carefully read the directions and measured out all of the oils and grabbed some distilled water from my garage. I did not add any Vodka or Witch Hazel but, this is optional so I opted to add more distilled water. It would be interesting to compare the recipes so I plan to purchase one or the other in the near future.

When this was all said and done, this actually did smell like a beautiful Christmas scent. I sprayed a little in my room but, unfortunately, because it’s not safe for cats, and I have 2 of them, I did not spray a lot of it.

Peppermint & Pine Salve

I admit that I totally botched this recipe.  However, for the sake of my own embarrassment I won’t post what all happened (again, I fully disclose that I am not the best DIYer!) but, I plan to try this recipe out again when I get a bit more time. It smells just like the Pine-Sol cleaner!

Candy Cane Lip Balm

This was my favorite recipe to follow. After my above mishap, I tried melting coconut oil and beeswax again and this time, I nailed it. For some reason, it felt surprising to me that I created something I use all the time – chapstick! I love the fresh scent of the peppermint and it makes my lips nice and soft and smooth during the dry winter season. I definitely plan to continue to make my own in the future with this recipe.

The consistency and quality of the product feel like chapstick one would purchase at a store. The best part is, it really did not take long to make it. I love this because I feel like I’m always on the go these days.

Mandarin and Coffee Sugar Scrub

This was also a fun recipe. I use sugar scrubs a lot because I love the way they make my skin feel, especially during dry months. I’ve used a coffee scrub before so I was excited to try to make my own.

The directions again were very simple and this did not take as much time as I initially thought it may. The scrub did leave my hands feeling extremely soft. However, I can see if someone does not like the smell of coffee, this probably won’t be a good project for them.

Cold Buster Roll On

This was also a pretty simple recipe to follow. I grabbed one of the rollerballs from in the bonus box, and then carefully followed the directions to measure out each ingredient correctly. As Abby also mentioned in her review, I really felt like it was difficult to get any of the oil to come out when I rubbed it along my wrists or on my skin. However, that being said, I felt that it smelled really nice. I can still open the bottle and dab a little bit onto my skin if I (knock on wood) get sick any time soon.

Christmas Candy Diffuser Blend

This was the only recipe that I, unfortunately, could not create due to me not having a diffuser in my home. I did own one a long time ago and really wish I had kept it. I can imagine that the smell of Christmas Candy would be incredible to have around the home. I would not want to diffuse much of it though because the recipe indicates it’s not cat-friendly and I would not want to put my furbabies in harm’s way.

WildRoot Deodorant

One last thing that was included within this box was this all-natural and lavender-scented deodorant. I have heard in the past that aluminum-free deodorant is a better and healthier way to go. I feel like I sweat a lot sometimes so I have always been afraid to try something like this out. I’ve tested it out a few times so far and luckily no one has complained about me (yet)! Wildroot is a sister company of Simply Earth so they included this within the box as a thank-you gift.  I think that it is really kind and awesome for them to do this for all subscribers! If anyone would like to check out more about WildRoot or shop their products, you can do so by heading to their website here.

Overall Thoughts

As I indicated, I was a tad nervous to try out the recipes in Simply Earth’s box.  However, between all the recipe cards, the Bonus Box items, and of course, the Essential Oils Box, it’s a perfect combination for someone who loves DIY projects or just loves natural products and/or essential oils. I do not use essential oils on a regular basis so this was a nice treat for me to try something new. And I am pleased with how easy everything was. This may seem silly but, I felt a major confidence boost from making my own chapstick.  I also enjoyed that everything was very holiday-themed for the December box. It was the perfect amount of items to get me in the spirit for the Christmas & New Year season to begin.

You can still snag your December 2019 and get all the recipes and items in this box! Don’t forget; new subscribers will also receive their Bonus Box to help them along the way with all their essential oil projects.
