Website Description of Box: “Our project is about selecting a group of small farmers, measuring their current production, providing them with the resources to improve their harvest and allowing them to sell their Cacao in the form of chocolate through a partnership that we have established with Small Batch Chocolate Makers to manufacture our chocolate and with your support to create a market for these farmers. The more people we gather, the more farmers we will empower to sell finished goods, instead of selling only their beans.

Fun stickers that came with our box!

Chocolat Bonnat, Piura Blano – Retail Value: $19.99

Although this was the priciest chocolate in the box, it was my least favorite.  To me, it was bitter and also a bit greasy for my liking.  I did note a fruitiness that I rather enjoyed, however, I couldn’t get past the bitterness.  My husband mentioned the same issues as I noted as well.

Dick Taylor Craft Chocolate, Belize Toledo – Retail Value: $8.50

This Dick Taylor chocolate bar was just as tasty as it was beautiful.  The back of the package noted tasting notes as dried plum and tart cherry.  Immediately I was able to taste those flavors in that bar.  I really enjoy some fruit notes in my chocolate.  I will order more of these bars to give out as gifts.  It really is perfection!

Fruition, Brown Butter Milk Chocolate – Retail Value: $9.95

This was the first bar that my husband and I tried, mainly because it was milk chocolate.  I have to say it was one of my favorite.  It was very creamy and sweet.  I loved the caramel flavoring as well.  I will be buying more of this bar to have on hand as treats for both myself and my husband.

AMEDEI Tuscany, Porcelana – Retail Value: $15.67

While researching the chocolate in this box, I was surprised to see this limited edition bar.  I thought it was really neat that the Fine Chocolate Club included a product that you really can’t just stroll into a store and buy.  This was the only bar that came broken, however, it didn’t affect the taste in the least.  At first, I wasn’t a huge fan of this chocolate.  Nevertheless, I went back and nibbled it here and there throughout the week review.  In the end, this one ended up being my favorite.  It was the least bitter and had the smoothest taste.  It almost melted in my mouth, in a good way.  This was also my husband’s favorite item in the box.

SOMA Chocolatemaker, CSB Chama, Venezuela – Retail Value: $18.00

This SOMA chocolate was another one that I adored.  It tasted a tad like coffee and also had a nice nutty aftertaste.  I loved the artwork etched on the bar too.  The taste was very smooth with no bitterness.

Overall

Going into this review of the Fine Chocolate Club subscription, I have to say I was more than a little naive about my knowledge of “fine chocolate”.  Once I dove into the research on the box and the bars I realized this was more than just a chocolate delivery service.  Fine Chocolate Club is a luxury chocolate experience.  I also admire that this company is working towards helping farmers.  The total product value is at about $72, which is just over the $68 one would pay for the box. So not only are you getting a fairly good deal, you are getting a box of extravagant chocolates each month.  The only thing I would suggest to Fine Chocolate Club is the option to change the frequency of the subscription.  Personally, the five large bars would be enough for two months in my house, so I would prefer to have an option to receive boxes every other month.
