This month’s theme is “Tangy Citrus”, which is described on the Bokksu website as:

“Most citrus fruits ripen in the winter, but there’s something about that cool glass of lemonade in the summer, or a fresh slice of orange that makes “citrus” a quintessentially summer flavor. This month we’ve included Japanese snacks flavored with 6 different citruses including fruits like hyuganatsu and sudachi to give you a taste of flavors native to Japan. We hope this month’s “Tangy Citrus” box helps keep you cool and refreshed as summer starts to heat up!”

Some of my favorite snacks are lemon-flavored, so I instantly knew that I would find a least a few snacks in this box that I would fall in love with.  Again, the box that Bokksu uses is super sturdy and I’m always able to upcycle them around the house.  Another thing that I really like about Bokksu is the mini-magazine.  Each month my family and I enjoy learning more about Japan and the Japanese culture.  Learning through food is something I can truly get behind.

Sweet Treats

This month’s sweet treats were a real delight.  I am notorious for my sweet tooth so I get excited about trying new snacks.  My personal favorites this month were the Setouchi Lemon Sable Cookie and Yuzu Anpan.  The Yuzu Knojac Jelly was a really unique snack too, it reminded me of lychee.  My son tried each snack with me and actually didn’t find any snacks that he was a fan of.  I was a bit surprised but then realized that this month wasn’t the best theme for someone that is not a huge fan of citrus in general.

Savory Treats

Savory treats tend to take a back seat in Bokksu, so if you typically go for salty snacks this is a heads up that they aren’t normally the main feature.   The Seaweed Tempara was my favorite savory snack in the box, this is the third time that I have gotten in a Bokksu box though.  I was shocked at how large of a bag of chips was in the box and I’m still baffled at how they fit it in there.  Who doesn’t love having a bag of chips around the house?  The rice crackers weren’t something I would buy again, however it was fun to taste them.

Tea

I haven’t yet tried the included tea, but I plan to have it over ice next week, once the temperatures start to soar in the PNW.  I will update this review once I have had the opportunity to give it a try.

Overall

Bokksu is my favorite snack box to receive!  After missing out on the May box due to shipping issues, I was stoked to get the tracking information for their June box.  I’m happy that Bokksu was able to find another shipping vendor since I would have been super bummed to miss the June box.   The Tangy Citrus theme was the perfect way to kick off summer.  If you are thinking about subscribing, head to their website and check out what the next theme is, typically they also list what snacks will be included, so you can see if you think it will be a good fit for you!
