I’ve been fortunate to review so many beauty and makeup subscription boxes over the past year but, Boxycharm will for sure always hold a special place in my heart. (I’m also a huge fan of Boxyluxe and think for the upgraded price, it’s a steal!) It was one of the first full-size product subscription boxes that I ever subscribed to. It really helped build my foundation for products, and got me even more addicted to makeup and beauty products! Who knew, right? While I took a short hiatus from reviewing this subscription, I’m really happy to share this box with all of you. I love the uniqueness in this box of different products.
Please keep in mind that Boxycharm has variations of boxes that subscribers may receive. This includes products, shades, different colors, etc. I will be reviewing what I personally received.
As you probably can tell, I will be reviewing the upgraded version “Boxyluxe” for June of 2019. This means I received more full-size products than the normal $21.00 a month subscription.
This month’s theme was “Getaway” and had a bunch of amazing products. As I mentioned, the variety of this box was incredible. It included skin care, hair care, makeup, and even a styling tool!
The more variety, the better.
First I will mention what each Boxyluxe member received no matter what variation their box was, and then I will go through the variations I received.
pyt hair Mini Turbo on-the-go Dryer – Retail value $85.00
I think there’s a popular phrase you all may be aware of, “Though she be little, she be fierce.” That quote could not describe this product better. This is a travel size/smaller hairdryer but, it’s actually quite powerful! I would not be able to use this product daily because while it worked well, it still took longer than my normal dryer, but, for vacations and when I’m out of town? Heck yeah, this baby is going with me!
Farmacy Honeymoon Glow Serum – Retail $58.00
According to Farmacy Beauty’s website, this product is: “A 3-in-1 night serum that resurfaces, hydrates and clarifies dull skin while you sleep, formulated with a 14% AHA/BHA/gentle flower acids blend.” If I’m being honest this product kind of burned my skin a little bit. The instructions indicated that a slight tingly may occur, but, it felt a bit uncomfortable. I did use the product as directed the first time, which says to use a generous amount of 2-3 pumps. I waited a couple more days and used a little bit less, and it actually didn’t give me the same effect as last time. Maybe using a little less until my face gets used to it was key. So far I think my skin is looking better using this product but, it’s a bit hard to say for sure right now. I definitely plan to keep using this product.
Touch in Sol No Poreblem Prime Essence – Retail Value $23.00
Luckily this primer came to me just as I was running out of the other one I’ve been using. So far, I really like this product. I don’t know if I like it more than the holy grail one I use but, I really do enjoy using new products and having variety in my beauty routine. I felt it did a nice job of keeping my foundation looking good all day, and since it’s a pore reducing primer, I felt it worked best around my nose where my pores are normally huge.
Dominique Cosmetics Lemonade Lipgloss in Peach Tea – Retail Value $17.00
I was really hoping this would smell just like peach tea. Mostly because I love the taste and the way a nice tall of a glass of iced peach tea smells. While it did not smell like that, it still smelled really good which is important to me. Why wear a lipgloss that isn’t pleasant to smell? The website claims that this is a sheer-medium coverage lip gloss which is perfect to either wear alone or layer over lipstick. I thought the color was really beautiful and it’s one I can wear with a lot of different looks. At work, I tend to like a lighter and less flashy color so I am going to stick this in my purse and take it with me.
Note: this product came in other shades, this is color I received.
treStiQue Curler + Lash-Enhancing Good Vibes Mascara – Retail Value $25.00
Well, I’m just going to preface this with a little disclaimer. This was one of the most interesting mascaras I’ve ever tried. I don’t really like to use eyelash curlers because for some reason I’m just incredibly clumsy and always end up pinching my eye in it. However, to give this a fair review, I followed the directions and used it as instructed. It felt like an extra step using the curler and I don’t have much time to add more steps to my routine so I probably won’t repurchase in the future. I think it did make my lashes look really nice though.
Dr. Brandt Clean Biotic – Retail Value $35
I’m normally a skincare creature of habit but, of course always willing to try out a new product, especially by a well known and trusted brand. I really loved the feel of this face wash. It didn’t foam up like my normal face wash does which took a couple of days to get used to. However, my face felt super clean and I loved that it didn’t feel incredibly dry afterward. I would love to purchase this as a splurge item in the future.
The next products had some variations. I will discuss the ones I received.
Tarteist Pro Glow V3 – Retail Value $45.00
Tarte still is one of my favorite brands, so it’s always nice to see them in a box! I had quite some trouble finding this product online so I’m thinking it’s possible a Boxycharm exclusive? I noticed one of the variations was, but, on the website, I didn’t see anything stating that. I already have so many blush palettes, so I did not swatch the different formulas, and therefore I cannot give a full review on it. At first glance, I loved the look of it and thought the colors were really nice and complimented each other extremely well. I plan to gift this to someone in the future, and I hope they like it!
Other variations subscribers may have received are the Tarteist Pro Glow & Blush (Retail Value $45) or the Boxycharm exclusive eyeshadow palette, Be You, Naturally by Tarte (Retail Value $36)
Living Proof Full Dry Volume Blast – Retail Value $29
I love Living Proof’s brand of hair care items. I have not used this version of dry shampoo before but, I’ve always been impressed with their Perfect hair Day dry shampoo so wanted to give this one a shot. I tend to shy away from any products with volume because my hair is naturally somewhat thick, and has its own mind, so volume isn’t a concern for me. However, I decided to give it a shot and see how well it worked. I can’t say that it gave me more volume than normal – but, also keep in mind, as mentioned above, I have somewhat thick hair with a bit of volume already so it’s hard to say. I love that it kept my hair fresh and clean all day though!
The other variation subscribers may have received is the Living Proof Full Thickening Cream (Retail value $28)
M. Greengrass Hand & Body Butter Summer in Nice – Retail Value $24
Oh goodness. I like to think that if I heaven has a smell to it, that this would resemble what it’s about. It was absolutely delightful to smell and I’m definitely going to be ordering a second one of these. It will be a splurge for me but, it’s 100% worth it. It also left my hands and body so incredibly soft.
If subscribers did not receive this product, they would have received Skin & Co. Truffle Therapy Radiant Dew Mist (Retail Value $35)
Overall Thoughts
This month of Boxyluxe offered so many terrific products. I did not receive the last Boxyluxe subscription in March of 2019 but, I definitely put this one on the top of my favorites so far. Not only are there plenty of makeup and skin care products but, the mini hair dryer was a great touch for the box. You also can’t deny that the overall value of this box is SO amazing for what you pay. A normal Boxycharm box is $21, and to upgrade to Boxyluxe, it’s $28.99 (one time charge every 3 months) so I paid $49.99 for this box. However, the total overall retail value is $316! Wow! That’s an overall savings of $266.01. I will definitely take that any day of the week, which I’m sure my fellow beauty addicts will agree. If someone is looking for a subscription to start building their makeup, beauty, and skincare stash, this is definitely the subscription to turn to.
