Bright Cellars makes the process of matching you with wines easy. Take a quick, 7 question survey about food preferences and your wine profile is quickly built. There’s also the option to choose white or red wines only, a preference of more white or red wines with some of the other, or allow Bright Cellars to match you with your best pairings, which I really loved. The preference I chose for this box was to be matched with the best pairings of both red and white. Depending on my mood, I definitely like to drink both, so I felt this was a good option for me.

One of the things that really stood out to me when I received this box was how well everything was packaged. I definitely do not want any broken wine bottles delivered to me!

I also loved how they wrapped the bottles in tissue paper and added these adorable stickers. Things like this always, in my opinion, add a special touch and it makes me remember the brand much more.

My box ended up containing 3 red wines, and 1 white wine. I was pleased with this because I’ve been drinking more rose and white wines, and was looking forward to seeing how well the red ones matched my tastes.

Let’s find out what Bright Cellars sent me.

Obscura Pinot Noir 2017

This wine comes to me from California. I’m a huge fan of Pinot Noir wines so I decided to try this one out first.  I felt it was a bit on the dryer side which I tend not to gravitate towards but, overall I liked the taste of it. I’m not sure if I would purchase this in the future but, I could picture drinking this with a nice steak dinner. I don’t think I’d drink this for an after work drink, or at a party, but, it would pair very well with food and I will happily drink the remainder of the bottle!

Mojave Rain Pinot Noir 2017

This was the 2nd bottle of Pinot Noir I received and it also came from California. I definitely enjoyed the flavor of this one much better. It felt smoother to me, and I could taste the subtle hints of fruit between each sip. The black cherry added a nice aroma to the glass as well. I could definitely see myself purchasing this again in the future and Bright Cellars did a great job matching me with this wine!

La Cueca Merlot 2018

This wine comes from Central Vallet, Chile. I was immediately intrigued after reading this wine was called “Dancing Juice”. I don’t normally buy or drink merlots often so I was very curious as to what this would taste like. It had almost a peppery taste to me. I also could taste a somewhat fruity flavor, so those flavor profiles were pretty conflicting to me. I’m not sure if I could personally drink a lot of this to make me get in the dancing mood but, it would be a nice bottle to share with a friend or have at a Happy Hour.

Batik Chenin Blanc 2018

Also coming from California, this wine was the show stopper for me in the box. I could picture myself drinking a nice chilled glass of this on a warm summer evening. It was crisp and had a delicious fruity flavor but, nothing too overbearing. I could easily picture myself finishing this bottle by myself in an evening. (We’ve all been there, right?) This is a wine that had I seen it in a grocery store, I probably would have passed it by, so I’m really glad Bright Cellars matched me with it.

Overall Thoughts

Overall, Bright Cellars did an impeccable job matching me with each wine. While some of them were ones I would more than likely not purchase for the future they still fit in the wheelhouse of wine flavors I enjoy and tend to drink. The short quiz was extremely easy to fill out and wasn’t too extensive or cumbersome. I noticed on the website it’s very easy to skip a month or two if you need a break from the subscription. It’s also extremely easy to switch out the types of wine you get each month. I could see myself doing this in the summer since as I had mentioned above, I tend to stick to rose or white wines on the hot summer days. In the winter, I definitely enjoy a nice glass of red wine, curled up with a good book or when I’m watching a movie. Or, feeling adventurous? Let Bright Cellars do the work for you and pick the wines you receive! It’s amazing the number of varieties offered.
