As someone who loves cereal for breakfast, I have been looking forward to finding one that I could still enjoy while following a KETO lifestyle. Needless to say, I was excited to dive into the four options sent to me from Catalina Crunch. Read on to see what I thought.
Nutritional Facts
The first things I look at in a new product are the net carbs and serving size. The serving size for these cereals is pretty small, only 1/2 cup. Typically I would want about a cup of cereal to really feel satisfied. For one serving, this cereal contains 5 net carbs, which would put me at 10 net carbs before even adding my milk. Since I try to stick to under 20 net carbs all day, I would most likely opt for these as a snack and stick to only one serving. The 11g of protein per serving is a great way to fill my macros for the day since that is where I normally am lacking. Click the below pictures to see more on the nutritional facts and ingredients lists for each flavor.
Taste
There were some clear favorites in my house – Dark Chocolate was the best, followed by Cinnamon Toast. Dark Chocolate tasted a lot like cocoa puffs, but with more of a crunch. And Cinnamon Toast was so close to Cinnamon Toast Crunch, that my son could only tell the difference based on the color. We weren’t able to try the Graham Cracker flavor because the seal was broken and the contents were spilled in the box. I can’t say that I would recommend the Fruity flavor to anyone, as the aftertaste didn’t sit well with me. Each cereal had great texture and amazing crunch, which is what I was looking for. Plus they didn’t get soggy even after sitting in milk for a few minutes.
Overall
If you are leading a low carb lifestyle and you miss having cereal, then I highly suggest you give the Dark Chocolate flavor from Catalina Crunch a try. The crunch, texture, and flavor are all perfection! As mentioned above, the net carb count is a little high for my liking. However, if I had wiggle room in my daily numbers, then I would eat the cereal as a snack, without milk. While on the Catalina Crunch website I noticed a few other products that look delicious too. The cookie sandwiches and smoothies look like heavenly treats. Overall, I like that there is a brand out there giving all the low carb people a cereal option. And Catalina Crunch did a wonderful job on the Dark Chocolate flavor.
