This next box comes to us from Australia! How exciting. I continue to be amazed and awed at just how creative this box is and how many little details go into it each month. While this month was also a little bit harder to crack, I began paying closer attention to some of the clues from previous boxes, to see how everything is going to play out. Even though not everything is completely obvious to me, I still feel like I’m catching on a little bit quicker than I did with previous boxes.
I also want to love that I really love Australia so this month’s box was very cool in my opinion.
As always, you’re provided with a list of what is included in the box.
Let’s go through and take a peek at what came in the box this month.
I really like the physical clues outside of the normal letters and paperwork that comes in the box. I think it adds a little something to the game and makes it different than other subscriptions I’ve seen. If you take a look at James’ note, it looks like you’ll need to keep this item handy and use it somewhere in this box? Where though? It didn’t’ take me long to figure it out so I really did feel like a detective! Also, I’m thinking I may not to use this clue in future boxes so I’ll make sure I keep it handy.
I learned how to play the flute, piano, and guitar in high school but, unfortunately, I haven’t played in years. I was taught how to play by reading sheet music and not by ear or any other methods. I wish I had stuck with either the piano or guitar though because reading sheet music could have helped me immensely with this clue. Luckily, thanks to Google, I was able to decipher what each music note means since my brain didn’t recall much from my younger years. However, as you can see, James points something out to you. Could a certain device perhaps help you “see” what you can’t see at first glance? Oh, and another small hint I will give is to pay attention and look for a pattern. I was having trouble with this until I figured that part out when it all made sense. For little hints, I highly recommend you check out the Facebook Dispatch group or Slack. It’s helped me a ton!
What an interesting painting. Hmm, it appears the box also came with a red marker. The first thing I did was pick up the marker and look all over it for a clue. I did not find anything, which leads me to believe it really is just a device to use for the color sheet in this box. The painting appears to be something Portia Van Kress drew in honor of her twins. Read what it says on the lower right-hand corner. I ended up using the pen for that, and I don’t believe there’s any other hidden message on it. However, I will say once you color the item in with the pen, you’ll see something else there.
Oh, look here – a deck of cards!
I have to imagine there’s some kind of clue with this deck of cards, right? I notice some writing on the cards, but, what does it all mean? I think one of the clues to come will give me a better understanding of how to use these. Or at least that’s what I am hoping since nothing is standing out to me quite yet…
Nice, this box is really sticking to the theme since learning how to throw a boomerang, makes me think of items from Australia. However, this clue completely threw me off. Am I supposed to take this metaphorically as a clue? Or is there more to it?
Also, if you take a look at what else is in this picture, it’s pretty interesting once you look at all the little details. What was this money used for on the account ledger?
As you can see above in this picture, James gave us some police reports and other important secret documents. Hmm…looks like there was some kind of additional accident, not including one involving a vehicle. What could have happened? Is this family truly more sinister than we could ever imagine? I also really love how the post-it notes come in this box. It gives me the feel that James is actually personally writing to me, and it adds even more fun to the game!
As I read further and further into these documents, wow…just wow.
So much is going on. I’m becoming more anxious for details to come out. If some of the family members are as awful as they seem, I can only hope that justice will prevail and we’ll get answers!
Fun! A show ticket!
This looks like an authentic movie ticket so I thought that was really cool! As you can see there are all kinds of hidden details about this ticket. One thing I’ll mention is to check out all the little details (not just the back!) and make sure you do something with those details you uncover. It will help you along the way as you navigate through the box. Also, as you can see, there are some hidden clues again. Remember last month’s box and “all of James’ favorite mysteries”? Looks like we may have some more coding to do again!
As I have mentioned, so many shady things are going on with this family! Reading this letter and the diary entry makes me so sad for Lydia. Hopefully, we can figure all of this out and bring some kind of justice to light.
Overall this box was somewhat difficult to get through but, if I compare it to the previous box, I think this one was a little bit easier. I think it was only “easier” because some of the tricks I learned from last month’s box came into play again. I already took a sneak peak of the next box, and I can’t wait to share all of my thoughts with you! I hope you’re enjoying this mystery as much as I am. I am starting to feel more and more invested in figuring out what’s really going on in this family.
