Is it just me or does anyone else think that men’s razors are superior to woman’s razors? I think it is one of the biggest secrets in life. And I only found out when my family and I moved and were living out of boxes. Since I still can’t figure out where my razors went, I took to using my husband’s handle and a new blade out of his pack. After realizing how much better men have it, I decided to get my own set from Dollar Shave Club. I have had a few readers ask me to review their box, and at this point knew I needed to see what they are all about! At only $5, how can I say no?
Unboxing
Razor
Our trial box came with one executive razor handle and two cartridges. Not only was I super impressed with the razor handle, but my husband was also equally dazzled. The metal is a nice weight and the rubber grip will be helpful so I don’t drop it mid shave. I also really liked the flexible head since I know that is key to a good shave. The razors themselves were impressive too with six blades for a super close shave. I would put this razor in the same class as the Gillette Pro Glide that I borrowed from my husband. They give equally amazing shaves and are easy to cleanout.
Trial Sized Items
Along with the razor, our box included a trail-sized shave butter, prep scrub, and post-shave dew. Now, I don’t know your typically shaving routine, but I usually just use shave gel. The three items seemed a little overkill at first glance, plus I wasn’t sure I would like the shave butter vs a shave gel. Either way, I gave the entire routine a shot in the name of science…or at least a thorough review. The prep scrub was a very nice exfoliator that left my skin rather smooth. Then I followed up with some of the shave butter before continuing my shave. My only qualm with the using the butter vs a gel was it was a little harder to tell if I missed any spots. That being said, my legs have never been more smooth. I’m sure the post-shave dew, which I assume is basically a lotion, may have helped with the smoothness. All three items had a “masculine” scent to them, but none were overwhelming.
Overall
Now the big question – Will I continue my membership? Yes, yes I will. I will opt out of the post-shave dew since I prefer my lotion to a less manly scent. For now, I will also reduce my shipments to every four months since I don’t go through blades very fast. Although, I suspect my husband is going to want to get in on this action as he is testing my second blade this weekend. Something tells me he will be ready to drop his Gillette and switch to Dollar Shave Club once he realizes he can still get a close shave without having to buy blades in bulk! See below for what my next box will include.
