My hair has slowly been turning grey since I turned 21 years old. Each year there are a few more wiry stands that appear out of nowhere, just to remind me that I’m getting older. To be honest, they haven’t really bothered me much, until recently. I see my grey hairs as showing how much I have lived and all the knowledge that I’ve gained along the way. However, I have very thin hair, and I started to notice the number of greys was starting to make me look bald in some spots. I figured if I tried to color them back to brown, maybe my hair would look a little thicker. Also, after not having a haircut in over a year, my hair was starting to look dull and really unhealthy. A nice demi-permanent dye might be able to fix that for me though, at least temporarily. So, eSalon to the rescue, could their subscription help bring my hair back to life? Read on to see my results!
Custom Color Set
Before eSalon sent my box, they had me answer a few questions about my hair and what I was looking for in using their service. Then I was able to select the shade of color I wanted to try and my box was on its way to me. Every step of the way I felt like the color set was personalized to me and my needs which made me feel very confident in using their service. Since I haven’t dyed my hair in about ten years, I was a bit anxious, to say the least. Everything in my box was very well put together with everything I could need to achieve my hair goals. They really did think of everything from stain guard, to stain remover, and of course complete instructions.
Process
I chose to use the bottle application since I figured it would be easiest to squirt and brush. My kit included one color for my roots and one for my ends. The directions were very clear and I was able to apply the color to my roots fairly fast (remember I have very thin hair, so this was easy for me). I let my roots set for ten minutes then mixed my next color and started on my ends. While my hair is long, there was still plenty of dye left in the bottle when I was finished which slightly made me second guess if I had done everything correctly. But again, thin hair….so needed less product. After letting my ends set for 5 minutes, I was ready to hop in the shower. I was a little worried that the dye would stain my white tile shower, but it rinsed off super easy which was a huge relief. By the time I got it rinsed out and used the included shampoo and conditioner, I was stoked to see my results. Read on to see my before and after pictures!
Results
eSalon made me question why I haven’t dyed my hair in ten years! I stopped getting it done because my hair was getting really dry from overprocessing it, back when being a blonde was my thing. But I really never stopped to think about using a demi-permanent dye to help my strands out while avoiding the damage! I am so happy with the way it turned out and even more excited to keep using eSalon on a regular basis. From start to finish my experience was amazing. And if my locks can look this good for only $22, then I’m sold. There are still a few grey hairs that didn’t hold the color, but overall I am shocked at how much healthier and thicker my hair looks and feels.
Add On Products
I decided to add on some products to help me with volume since my hair tends to get flat during the day. The Styling Mist (left) worked really well as a lightweight hairspray, however, it didn’t seem to give me the volume I was looking for. It seemed to be a better product if I were to curl my hair, which is very rare. The Root Treatment (right) worked wonders for lifting my roots! The formula was a little runnier than I expected so it did drip all over my face the first few times I used it. But once I got the hang of how to apply it, my hair thanked me. I didn’t notice any new growth (my hair is still as thin as ever), but it did seem to help give me the appearance of thicker hair.
