Jackie’s Chocolates is an artisan chocolate company that believes chocolate is better when made the old fashion way.  Passing on the tradition of “Grandma Jackie” to their customer is what they are all about.  In addition their full menu they offer 3 subscription options.  A Little Taste (about 6 pieces), Let’s Indulge (about 12 pieces), and Enough To Share about 24 pieces).  We received the “Let’s Indulge” subscription box, which includes 1/2 pound of assorted chocolates themed as “Jackie’s Favorites”.

While I didn’t capture pictures of the outer packaging, I can assure you that this box came fully protected from the heat.  The chocolaty goodness was thoroughly insulted and protected within 2 envelopes surrounded by ice packs.  Incredibly it sat on my porch for 24 hours and was still in perfect shape when we unboxed it.  I was very thankful for the blustery Pacific Northwest weather we had that day and that they took the time and care to package this so thoughtfully.

I love chocolate.  There I said it.  That being said, I have been really trying to watch my sugar intake and this box tested my willpower to the max!  In order to produce a great review, I had to take one (or two) for the team.  I also decided it would be fun to share with a few key individuals and get their take on the samples.  Included in the sampling were me, my co-blogger Noelle, my son, and my husband.

Caramel Marshmallow

One thing was constant on all the pieces, the rich and flavorful chocolate itself.  It is a step above the generic box of grocery store chocolate.  After taking a small bite out of almost every choice, I decided I had two favorites.  The peppermint patty had the most incredible deep mint flavor that left me longing for more.  Noelle agreed that this was her favorite as well, and wishes she could have more of them!  The unique Caramel Marshmallow melted in my mouth.  The caramel was smooth and was a perfect combination with the marshmallow cream.

As for my husband, he tried nearly everyone and decided he didn’t have a favorite because he loved them all.  That surprised me since he isn’t normally a chocolate lover.  He mentioned that the outer chocolate seemed a little less sweet than store boxes and he appreciated that aspect.  To him, it made the center ingredients stand out more.  He also liked that the centers didn’t ooze out or make a mess while enjoying them.  I had cut up each piece to take pictures about an hour before he sampled his portion and the centers stayed in place without making a huge mess.

Chocolate Covered Oreohuge mess.

No surprise to me, my 4-year-old son decided the chocolate covered Oreo was his favorite.  The thing he liked best was that extra crunch that the cookie gave.  He mentioned the uniqueness of the piece and wants me to order a box full of these.  He has a point, I can’t say that I have ever seen this as an option in a chocolate box.

My only issue with this box is that it doesn’t come with a sheet that tells you what each chocolate is.  I like to know what I’m biting into and I could see this being an issue for someone suffering from allergies.  Since the pieces I chose were a diet cheat I would have loved to know what kind of chocolate I was eating so I could make sure I was able to at least try a flavor I know I’d enjoy.  Everyone that helped me sample mentioned the lack of guide as well.  I think adding that into each month’s box would be really helpful and make the experience that much more enjoyable.

I really liked this subscription box as a way to try new chocolates.  Personally,  after a few months of trying all their varieties, I would probably cancel the subscription and just order my favorites from their shop.  I could also see myself ordering this subscription as a gift for all the chocolate lovers I know for birthdays, holidays, events, etc.  I can’t think of a better gift for those in my life!
