This is my second box from Kidbox.  I signed up my 4-year-old last Winter when he hit a major growth spurt and we found ourselves too busy (with holiday festivities) to shop for new clothes for him.  The box they sent was outstanding!  Everything fit him perfectly and were items that we all loved.  I thought I had found the greatest parenting hack of all times.  Kidbox sends a box of seasonal clothes 5 times a year, Summer, Back to School, Fall, Winter, and Spring.  Like magic, my son will have new clothes with each season.

Fast forward to this past Spring.  I didn’t need anything new for my son’s wardrobe.  He hadn’t grown much so all of his clothes from the previous Fall/Winter were still in use.  Luckily with Kidbox, I can skip any season, so Spring box was skipped and the problem was solved with a click of the mouse.

fun items included in our Summer box

Now Summer is shining down on us in the beautiful Pacific Northwest and gasp, my son has grown out of nearly all of his pants and is on the fast track to needing new tank tops for summer.  Kidbox to the rescue, or so I thought.  Knowing a box would be arriving any day, I stretched his pants to the limit.  Our Kidbox came on one of the first gloomy Spring days we had had in a while.  While pulling the items out one by one I found myself wondering, “Where are all the pants?  This kid needs pants!”  I come to the end and while all the items were wonderful, they weren’t what was needed in my son’s life at the time.

All the items in the box were Summer clothes, which should have been expected by me considering it is the Summer Box.  However, living in the PNW I didn’t think about how other parts of the country don’t have our nonconformist weather.  This was a mistake on my part.  For us, the items simply were not what we needed at the time.  I ended up sending all of the items back and will wait for the Back to School Kidbox.  Let me just point out how awesome it is to be able to send the items back with no return fee or styling fee.  This box is free of obligation for 7 days upon receipt.  That is one of the many reasons I love this company.

Looking at the invoice made me wish I needed all the items.  $78 would have been an absolute bargain for that haul.  However, I have learned, just because something is a bargain doesn’t mean that I should buy it.

I would also like to note that there is a style profile that you fill out when signing up for the box.   For reference, here is the “Personality” and “Styles to Avoid” that I indicated on my son’s profile.

Overall, I still really like KidBox.  The Summer box didn’t work out for me, however, I’m excited for the Back to School box to show up.  I really like that there is no obligation.  Cases like mine are easy enough to “fix” by sending the items back.  Knowing there isn’t a penalty or styling fee makes me more comfortable to continue ordering in the future.
