June’s theme was Dino Discovery!  The bright and eye-catching artwork on this month’s box was extremely cute and really caught my attention!   My son and I completed each project together over the course of about one week.  After all the fun we had with May’s box he was very excited to get started on these activities.

Project  1 – Dress Like Dinosaur!

When we opened the box and saw the huge felt dinosaur tail, we both did a little happy dance.  The tail is attached with a large velcro strap, which made it easily adjustable. Also included in this activity was a felt mask and the stickers needed to decorate it.  It only took us about two minutes to be able to start playing dress up with these fun accessories!  I got a kick out of watching him roam around the yard pretending to be a fierce predator.  He liked adding a new costume to his dress-up closet!

Project 2 – Make a Dinosaur Habitat!

This project came with all the supplies needed to build a dinosaur diorama.  My son had tons of fun creating a habitat for the dinos.  He thought the volcano was fascinating and was excited to get 4 rubber dinosaur toys.  We really liked how everything was pre-cut and ready for us to simply peel and stick however we saw fit.  I don’t always have time to plan fun activities like this, so this box is very convenient for those busy days.  I also loved that we were able to upcycle the box!  In our house, we try to upcycle anything we can, so this really lined up with our way of life.

Project 3 – Junior Paleontologist Yoga!

This pack was filled with adventure.  We started off with hiding the cards.  First I hid them for my son, then he hid them from me.  He got a kick out of trying to trick me.  The next activity included was a hand-written journal. My son isn’t the type to sit down and write in a journal so we didn’t spend much time on that part of the pack.  Thankfully this box includes multiple activities, including yoga! He was the yoga instructor and enjoying being in charge.  The last item in the bag was a chute and ladder style game.  We love board games, so we’re happy to play that (over, and over).  I am actually going to laminate the board so we can hold onto it for a while.  It will make a great travel game for the future.

Project 4 – Dinosaur Excavation!

We started this activity making the bones using the included modeling clay.  There was more than enough to make all the necessary bones.  We ended up letting the bones dry for two full days since after one day they still seemed a bit soft.  My son decided to skip the painting of the magnifying glass because he liked it the way it was.  Once dry, we were ready to excavate.  We buried the bones as much as we could with the included sand.  While my son uncovered the bones we noted his observations on the included worksheet.  I was really surprised how seriously my son took his role as a paleontologist.

Project 5 – Fizzing Dinosaur Egg!

Our last activity was to make a fizzing dinosaur egg.  Let’s just say the egg didn’t turn out as expected.  We still aren’t sure what we did wrong on this one, but we ended up with a bag of fizzing cold liquid instead of dough we could sculpt an egg out of.  I reminded my son that science experiments don’t always work the way we think they should.  We agree to get the materials and try again on our own down the road.  This activity also came with a memory game, which kept us busy the rest of the evening.  By the end of the night, the pieces of paper were too crumbled to save since we played it over and over.

Overall

My son and I enjoyed these over the course of a week and he is still playing with the dress-up costume and diorama.  Every project included in this box was amazing!  We both agree this is a wonderful box and are so happy we are able to review Kid Wonder for our readers!  During these projects, my son told me how much he loves to do these projects with me.  That right there is enough for me to recommend this box to everyone reading this!  I don’t always have the time to come up with new activities for us to do together, but this box makes it so easy to always have things on hand when we want to stay home and connect.

This is our second box from Kid Wonder and both have been outstanding.  I like that there are different types of activities included in the boxes.  There is a little bit of crafting, role-playing, STEM, and even some yoga!  They touch on so many different areas that it would be hard for any kid not to be impressed.  The themed boxes are nice because they build excitement around subjects that we might not otherwise get my son interested in.

I also noticed that in their “Shop” section of their website you can buy individual boxes (including this one!) instead of a subscription sign up.  I could see how that would come in really handy for gift giving.
