May’s theme was Medieval Times.  I really liked how even the box matched the monthly theme.  My son and I completed each project together over the course of a week.

Project 1 – Dress Like a Knight!

This activity came with supplies to create everything seen here as well as armor to wear.  The shield was supposed to be attached to the armor.  However, my son decided the armor was too scratchy for him to wear, so we adapted the shield with a band on the back so he could wear it on his forearm instead.  I liked that there were several options for creating the shield and the face mask.  My son decided to go with an animal theme on his.

Project 2 – Construct a Castle!

This project came with all the supplies needed to build a castle and to dress our peg people.  I did the majority of the work on the castle while my son was busy clothing his Queen and Knight.  We spent a whole night playing with this set.  He brought out a fire breathing dragon (aka a mini dinosaur) and the Knight bravely saved the Queen during each scenario.  We both really liked that it had multiple “rooms”.

Project 3 – Train like a Knight!

I couldn’t get enough of this activity.  Our favorite part was the sword and paints that it came with.  We started off learning the terms and sword fighting and then learning the moves with the sword.  My son thought that was exciting and loved to use the terms he learned.  He then painted his sword with his favorite colors, which was really fun because I have a good time painting with him.  Painting has always been one of those activities that give me a lot of joy.  He was happy to choose his own colors and get going on his own.  While I was happy they included a mess mat and an apron since if you know how children paint, it can get quite messy!

Project 4 – Dragon Egg Quest!

I have to admit, when I started reading the directions on this activity, I didn’t think my son would be that into it.  There were two parts to this one.  First was to make the dragon’s egg, then you needed to return it to the dragon (that was the part I didn’t think he would like).  He loves to play pretend, but on his own terms with his imagination.  I think the thing that made him love this was the map that was included.  He and I did the adventure one time together with his Dad pretending to be the dragon and then my son kept repeating the adventure on his own while I was the dragon.  It was neat to see the steps he added and watch his creativity run wild.

Project 5 – Build a Catapult!

This was a great project.  My son was able to complete almost the whole catapult by himself (needed a bit of help with the rubber band portion).  He couldn’t believe he could build something so cool on his own.  We had hours of fun launching the pom poms across the room.  I know we will continue to play with this in the future.  He is working on painting it as I write this review.

In my opinion, this is a marvelous subscription box.  I really liked how it was all packaged in steps, which made it easy to stay focused as we went through the journey.  It was full of STEM activities that kept my son engaged for days.  We had fun with each and every activity.  I’m normally very good at coming up with things to keep him away from screen time, but I admit that as he is getting older it is getting harder.  This box gave me some creative ideas to get us to connect, and for that I’m thankful.
