This month My Athlete Box sent us their “Core Box” package to review for our readers.  We have been lucky enough to receive their boxes in the past and are always happy to complete an updated review.  Our past reviews of My Athlete Box can be viewed here, and include their “Sample Box” as well as the “Slim Fit Package”.

2020 has been a wild ride so far.  I started off the Stay at Home Order with the best of intentions.  Eating healthy, working out, and really focusing on my overall health.  However, as time went on my motivation has seemed to come and go.  For weeks at a time, I will be full health mode, and then I slowly creep into the “living my best life” mindset and sabotage myself.  Long story short, I was starting to let myself give up when the MAB showed up on my doorstep.  I figured that had to be a sign to really stay on track this time around.  So let’s dive in and check out the products that will help me with my journey.

Vivoo, Test Strips – Retail Value $24.90

Since I have never heard of Vivoo, I had to look into this company.  The test strips look a lot like a pregnancy test, however give you readings on several key areas.   Their website describes themselves as, “A new technology that analyzes your urine and provides nutrition and lifestyle advice, unique to your body in just seconds.”  Needless to say, I was a little skeptical, but I figured I didn’t have anything to lose.  So I signed up for the app and tried my first test.  After waiting two minutes, I scanned the test in the application.  It was pretty impressive to see all the areas that were checked.  Vivoo gave me a readout on hydration, pH, kidney functions, liver functions, risk of UTI, and ketones.  Each test is tracked in the app to give the user an overall wellness score and also recommendations on how to improve their health.  See the pictures below to get an idea of what my dashboard looks like.  I plan to use these tests once a week to help me stay on track.  This is the type of unique product that I love to find in subscription boxes.

Bandz, Llama Headband – Retail Value: $14.99

I don’t typically wear headbands, but I could see myself making an exception for this cute llama band.  The material is soft, stretchy and seems like it will dry quickly which is a huge plus.  The wide width is perfect for keeping all of my hair out of my face too.

Liquid IV – Retail Value: $3.12

So far, I have only tried out the Hydration Multiplier so that is the product I will discuss for now.  The Liquid IV website describes their hydration drink mix as, “a great-tasting, Non-GMO electrolyte drink mix powered by Cellular Transport Technology (CTT®) to deliver hydration to your bloodstream faster and more efficiently than water alone. 1 stick of Hydration Multiplier in 16 ounces of water can provide the same amount of hydration as drinking 2-3 bottles of water. It also contains 5 essential vitamins, and about 3x the electrolytes of traditional sports drinks.”  And while I could see how these drink mixes could be beneficial, the taste just wasn’t for me.  At first, the lemon lime was refreshing, however the salty aftertaste seemed to linger after each sip.  To be honest, I ended up tossing the drink after only drinking about half.  Therefore, I can’t really talk about the overall benefits.

Xpand, No Tie Laces – Retail Value: $9.99

Coming from someone who forces all shoes to be slip on shoes, these laces are a miracle.  No need to jam my foot into shoes that never get untied.  These elastic laces give me a perfect stretch to help me put on and take off any shoes.  And the handy anchor makes sure the laces stay in place all day long.  What a perfect item for the My Athlete Box!

Picky Bars, Ah Fudge Nuts  – Retail Value: $2.75

I’m always on the hunt for a great tasting energy bar.  The first bite was much better than I had expected it to be.  It had a nice soft texture, almost like a brownie.  I also liked that the peanut butter didn’t overwhelm the flavor, but was still noticeable.  After having this for an afternoon snack,  I did notice that this bar gave me the energy to make it until dinnertime.  Overall, I highly recommend this bar to anyone that is looking for a great tasting pick me up.

Acorn Bar, Coconut Ginger Apricot – Retail Value: $4.00

Want to hear something super random?  The day before my MAB showed up, my husband and I were having a discussion about if acorns are edible and if they are any good.  We had found an acorn tree on our property and were trying to decide if we should collect some of the nuts or leave them for the wildlife.  Long story short, we both were pretty shocked to see this bar in the box the next day.  And we both weren’t sure what to expect when we took our first bites.  The bar was super soft.  The taste was amazing too, I liken it to a no-bake peanut butter oatmeal cookie!  I want to buy these bars in bulk.  So yummy, there are no other words to describe this treat.

Raw Crunch Bar, Goji Berry – Retail Value: $2.50

I wanted to fall in love with this bar.  With all the delicious superfoods, I was ready to be wowed by the taste.  Unfortunately, I wasn’t a fan.  There seemed to be too much going on with the different tastes and textures.  My husband on the other hand thought it was delicious.  Different strokes for different folks I suppose.

Ancient Provisions, Cheddar Cheezish – Retail Value: $1.67

These crackers taste much better than they look.  They were nice and crispy and did have a cheese(ish) flavor to them.  I have never knowingly tasted green banana flour, but it worked well with this snack.  These will be a new staple in my pantry.

Work Out Cards

The included work out cards are always a great way to shake up my at-home routine.  While the workouts aren’t new to me, they are an awesome reminder and motivator. And the step by step instructions makes it easy to ensure I’m doing the drills correctly.

Overall

If you are judging this box solely on the value of the contents, then this box hit a home run!  My Athlete Box went over and above to cram as many amazing products into their envelope as humanly possible.  Once I  got over the value and started to test each product, I got even more excited.  MAB reminded me that the best part of subscription boxes is discovering products that I would have never heard about otherwise.  Vivoo has been a really great addition to my routine and helped me pinpoint areas where I can become more healthy.  Plus, I found a few healthy snacks that I can add to my pantry for the whole family to enjoy.  Even better still, is the motivation to keep pushing myself to lead a healthier life.
