Wine to my doorstep?  Yes, please!  I was more than thrilled to volunteer to review the Revel Wine Club subscription box.  As a subscriber, you are able to choose Red, White/Rose, or a combination of the two.  I have seen other wine boxes that also allow you to set a budget preference for your bottles but, Revel isn’t one of those clubs.  Personally, I like it better this way, since it is less confusing to the average consumer.  I also really appreciated the way the wine was boxed using cartons to make sure it was delivered in one piece!  One thing to note is that someone over 21 must be available to sign for the wine since you know there are laws and everything.  Let’s take a closer look at the wines that came in our box.

2016 Bread and Butter Chardonnay  – Retail Value $15

This Bread and Butter Chardonnay was by far my favorite bottle in the box.  It was so smooth with a strong vanilla flavor.  However, if you are not a fan of the oak flavors, you might not like this wine.  There was a bit of oaky aftertaste that I actually really welcomed.

2016 Chronic Cellars Pink Pedals Rosé – Retail Value $15

The week I received the box happened to be my birthday weekend!  When I saw the label for this bottle I knew it had to be the bottle that I enjoyed with my birthday meal!  I mean how accurate is it?  I have only actually tried one glass of Rosé in my wine excursions so I was excited to see if this bottle was better than my last experience.  The color and aroma were beautiful!  The taste screamed summertime, with hints of watermelon and berry flavors.

2015 Jelly Jar Red Blend – Retail Value $15

I fully expected this to be a very sweet wine, which is right up my alley.  I opened this with friends before a night out.  While it wasn’t as sweet as I had hoped for, it was delicious.  This bottle is a Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot-dominant red blend so the merlot did balance out the typical bitterness I taste in Cabernet.  I would love to try more wines from this company.

2015 Light Horse Cabernet Sauvignon – Retail Value $13

Since Cabernet is typically on the dry and bitter side, I tend to not care for most bottles.  While this one wasn’t the worst cabernet that I’ve tried, I still wasn’t a fan.  Looking back, I’m thinking if I gave it time to breathe it might have smoothed the flavor out a bit.

Overall

First off, this is a subscription box for wine, so of course, I love it.  The opportunity to try new wines each month is such a welcomed experience. I tend to get stuck in my ways and sticking to the same one or two bottles of wine that I have enjoyed in the past.  Other than that aspect, I also appreciated the way the wine was packaged, ensuring I would receive bottles that were in pristine condition.  Their website is very user-friendly if the subscriber wants to skip months or even shuffle back and forth between red and white wine choices.  The thing that I really like, and maybe not everyone will agree, is that this subscription is very straight forward.  I don’t have to say how much per bottle I want to spend or answer questions about my preferences.  I sign up and determine if I want red, white, or a combo and that is it; the wine is on the way.  Since I would use this box to help me find out what I like and don’t like answering questions about my preferences may take some of the fun out of it for me.
