The Sweet Pea Box is a little different than boxes we have reviewed in the past. This box is intended to be sent as a gift to someone special, be that a relative or a friend, so show them that you are thinking of them. I was impressed with the packaging of the Sweet Pea Box, the lace bow was a nice touch!
Inserts and Pictures
When I processed my checkout for this box I was able to upload three pictures that were printed and included in the box along with a handmade card, a sample letter, and also an insert with historical June dates. Nothing really says “I’m thinking of you” like a handmade card and printed pictures do! Please note the letter included in my box is only a sample. The subscriber gets to choose what the letter says.
Hot Pad Holder and Tea Towel – Retail Value: $2.00
I like the colors and patterns on these items, however, they don’t fit in with my kitchen decor. The material also feels on the cheap side, so I wasn’t sure about attempting to use the hot pad holder. I thought I had seen these at the dollar store before so I did a bit of research and did find the products on their website. Now, I’m not knocking the dollar store, I shop there on occasion, however, there are certain items I wouldn’t choose to buy from there.
Word Find – Retail Value: $1.00
I’m actually a sucker for word find books, so I was excited to see this in the box. This is the perfect way for me to work my brain while also taking a short break for myself. My son has gotten into them as well, so it is an activity that we can do together. Also, this seems like a gift that pretty much anyone could enjoy! I did list the retail value below what is noted in this book since I have seen this word find at the dollar store on many occasions.
“You are the best!” Notepad – Estimated Retail Value: $2.00
Who doesn’t need a new notepad from time to time? The colors and saying on this are very cute on the one included in the Sweet Pea Box.
Lemon White Chocolate Chunk Cookie – Estimated Retail Value: $3.00
This was the item I was most excited about in the box. It looked amazing and I love nearly all lemon desserts. The cookie itself was huge and very soft. I tried a tiny bit since I was about to eat dinner, fully planning on saving the rest to share with my son for a dessert. To be honest, the cookie was not good at all. I let my son try to see if maybe it was just my tastebuds and he didn’t like it either. We both agreed that it had a very strong chemical taste like we were eating a cleaning product almost. This giant, beautiful cookie, unfortunately, ended up in the trash.
Love Sign – Estimated Retail Value: $5.00
Since I struggle with decorating, I love to see home decor items in subscription boxes. This small wooden sign fits my existing scheme very well and will make a great addition to my home.
Biscotti – Estimated Retail Value: $2.00
In my kitchen, I have a small coffee area set up and love adding new snacks to it from time to time. Biscotti is something that I’m not a huge fan of, but it is great to put out for my husband or guests to snack on.
Sage & Rosemary Candle – Retail Value: $16
Maybe I’ve been hiding under a rock, but I’ve never seen a wood wick candle before. I like that this unique product was included in this month’s box. The scent is divine too!
Mini Watering Can Seed Kit – Estimated Retail Value: $4.40
Gardening was a huge piece of my childhood. My mom and dad were, and still are, into planting gardens and harvesting them for the family to enjoy. While I am a professional at planting and weeding, I can’t say that I have a green thumb. Since being an adult it seems my plants never last long! I keep trying though since it is an activity that I enjoy passing onto my son. All that being said, this mini seed kit was the perfect item for me to receive. The estimated price I listed is based on similar products found online.
Strawberry Maple Jelly – Retail Value: $12.89
This is my first time getting jam in a subscription box. And I’m not mad about it. The unique flavor picked for the box was neat, since I haven’t ever seen it in the store before. My son and I tried a tiny bit and both really like it. This will be great in the mornings on an English muffin.
Overall
First I want to say that I was extremely impressed with the personalization and packaging of the box. While some of the products were really neat, I have to say I didn’t see a direct theme to the box. The contents felt very random and as if they were curated without much consideration. Maybe there was a theme that I’m missing, and in that case, it would be nice to have an insert that tells the recipient why the items were chosen for the current month’s theme. That being said, I love the idea of this box, sending a note, pictures, and gifts each month to my parents would be a wonderful way to remind them how special they are to me. I hope that Sweet Pea Box can improve with time and curate a more cohesive box in the future.
