If you’re anything like myself,  and you hear about a wine subscription box  delivered right to your door, then I think it’s safe to say you think “Oh yes, I’m here for this!” I absolutely love a good bottle of wine for most occasions, so I was so excited when I heard about this service. I actually had heard about it a while ago, but never took the plunge to try it. I can definitely say I was not disappointed one bit!

When you first sign up for Winc by going to their website, you take a short quiz that helps match different kinds of wines to your palette. I thought this was pretty interesting because I assumed at first, they would just send you what they had in their inventory that month but, this is not the case which I really loved. After you submit your answers, you’re then matched with different kinds of wine each month that fit your taste buds, preference, and personality.

I decided to take advantage of receiving the 4 bottles so I could have free shipping and decided to pick 3 reds and 1 white wine because I normally drink more red wine. I thought that was genius that you can pick what kinds suit you and your personality, rather than just automatically be given 2 reds and 2 whites. You’re guaranteed a ton of variety because you can switch this up depending on your mood. It’s really easy to change this preference by going under your member subscription and picking how many of each kind you want to receive each month. Also, something else to point out is that you can skip months if you do not want to receive a box that month. You can skip multiple months in a row as well and still maintain your membership. How great is that?

I am going to be reviewing only the wines I received. Please note that in order to receive this subscription box, you MUST be 21 years or older.

Folly of the Beast – Pinot Noir, 2016

Central Coast, California

Price: $18.00 USD

This was by far my favorite wine. It had that really lovely almost fruity taste. The tasting notes mentioned it had a flavor of cherry, clove, and oak. I could definitely taste the oakiness so if that’s something you’re not a huge fan of, I could see this not being a favorite but, in my opinion, it still was not that overwhelming. I could see myself splurging on this kind of wine even though I typically don’t spend more than $10.00 on a bottle.

Rosa Obscura – Red Blend 2016

California

Price: $13.00

I don’t know how to really even explain this wine. I shared this bottle with my family on vacation, and we all agreed it was not that great. It tasted somewhat like rubbing alcohol but, it did have some fruity aspects. I know my palette isn’t that extensive with wines but, I feel with most reds, I can drink them no matter what. I had a very small glass of this wine and could barely finish it. Nobody in my family enjoyed it either, so this one I will definitely pass on!

The Bluffer, Valdiguie – Red Blend

Paso Robles, California

Price: $15.00

This wine was also very good. I do tend to like a lot of red blends and this one was no different. It had a lot of fruity flavors (red cherry, rhubarb, and strawberry) which I enjoyed. I could see myself drinking this with a cheese and meat platter. The notes also mentioned placing this in the fridge before drinking for 10 minutes which, unfortunately, I did not see until after I tried it. Regardless I still really liked it and I think it would make a nice gift for someone.

L’aterlier du Sud -Sauvignon Blanc, 2017

France

Price: $13.00

I think there is something to say about a cold glass of white wine on a warm day. I don’t really ever drink Sauvignon Blancs because they tend to be drier, and when I drink white wine I like them a little sweet. However, this particular wine was still really enjoyable and had again, a nice fruity and earthy flavor. I noticed on the website it’s also sold out, which goes to show it’s quite a popular pick!

I also received this cute little sample from Sugarfina. They make cocktail candies, including the one I received called the Peach Bellini. Unfortunately, I did not sample it but, I did receive a coupon for it, so I may take advantage of it and buy some to sample or to give as a gift. I thought this was a nice touch!

Overall

My overall thoughts are that I was matched really well with the wines I received. Out of 4 bottles, there was only 1 that I did not like which is pretty amazing considering that I typically don’t spend more than $10.00 per bottle of wine (and even that is expensive in my eyes!) so I don’t tend to go out there and try all new kinds of wine. I think getting wine delivered right to your door is not only convenient and really fun but, it will also give me the opportunity to expand my palette and I can also purchase bottles to keep on hand for parties or different gatherings at my home.

Even though I will be skipping months at a time because I definitely don’t go through this much wine (no judgments if you do 😉 ) I still think this is a must-have subscription for wine lovers or those out there who want to expand their palettes.
