About Stitch Fix

When you first sign up through Stitch Fix, you are given a styling profile to fill out for yourself. This helps your stylist pick out items that fit your needs, but also your personality and budget.  There are even examples of outfits that you can rate so your stylist really understands your fashion.  You can also choose how often you would like to receive boxes.  One thing to note, when you are a new member, they will send extra items in the first few boxes.  This is so they can ensure that they are giving you plenty of options while they get to know your style.

March 2019 Box Contents

I really liked that Stitch Fix includes styling cards.  I am not good at creating new looks.  I tend to wear the same type of outfits and simply change out tops here and there.  The included guides gave me some insight on things I could change up in my wardrobe. Also, the note from my stylist was really sweet and showed that she took the time to read my profile before choosing my items.

I love that they give 25% off if you keep everything in the box, however with so many items in this first box, I pretty much knew right away I wasn’t going to be able to keep everything.  It’s funny how if this box was for my son, I would jump all over that discount.  However, since it is for me, I can’t justify the large expense.  Mom life, am I right?

Emory Park, Dulce Short Sleeve Knit Top – $34

This was one of my favorite items in the whole box.  The material was buttery soft and it fits me perfectly.  The criss-cross chest seems to be super in right now too, so I loved that I would have a trendy yet casual piece in my closet.  Two things held me back from buying this top though…the price (again it is hard for me to spend money on myself) and the horizontal lines tended to accentuate my midsection.  In my mind, I would love this shirt, however, it would sit in my closet until I felt more comfortable with my tummy, which could be a while.

Street Level, Owen Clutch & Tote – $68

I really liked the lightweight feel of this tote/clutch combo.  I could see me using this for work since I could easily store my laptop in the tote section.  The clutch was my favorite part, I love the woven look of it.  It looks so cute tucked in the tote too. While this combo is adorable, it isn’t something I need at this moment, so I couldn’t justify spending money on it.  Sadly, I had to return it with the other items.  I have a feeling I might regret that decision, however, I see that Nordstrom has a similar version of this that I can splurge on down the road.

STS Blue, Skinny Jeans – $49

Skinny Jeans are my all time favorite since they are so versatile.  That being said, I can’t get into the current trend of unhemmed jeans.  To me, it makes me feel too sloppy.  I love the look on other people, but on me, it just doesn’t work.  The price point on the jeans was spot on for me so I was a little bummed that the style didn’t line up with my personality.

FORTUNE + IVY, Christelle Button Down Blouse – $42

I wanted to love this blouse.  The style is something that I have worn in the past and felt comfortable in.  It fit pretty well, but it was a little short in the torso though.  I couldn’t get past the polka dots and it seemed way to busy for my liking.

Staccato, Shenaya Cowl Neck Knit Top – $44

Army green is my favorite color right now so I was stoked to get this lightweight hoodie in my box.  My dreams were short-lived though since this was a bit too tight in my chest.  I could have exchanged it for a larger size which would make it fit my chest, however, it would then be too large everywhere else.  I decided to return this item for that reason.

Lush, Samira Back Button Top- $38

I can tell my stylist is understanding my fashion sense.  So much so that she included a shirt that is near identical to one I already own and love.  I decided I didn’t need a twin to the one already in my closet, but this top is perfect for me otherwise.

Alice Blue, Simona Henley Blouse – $38

This style of blouse is my go to that I mentioned earlier.  It is so easy to add a cute cardigan on top of this and look professional enough at the office.  The color is beautiful too.  I was bummed to find this tight in the chest and midsection on me though.  I did almost hold onto it for the future when I lose a little weight, but I had to remind myself that I have a whole closet full of those “someday” clothes.

MIX BY 41 HAWTHORN, Abriella Waffle Knit Cardigan – $48

This was my favorite item in the box.  I almost didn’t try it on since I wasn’t a fan of the waffle texture.  The color was so pretty and unique that I had to try it.  Also, if you know me, you know that I live in cardigans so of course, I had to try this one on.  It was a perfect size and even had pockets.  This was the one item I decided I wanted to keep.  After I took it off and started to pack all other items in the prepaid shipping envelope, I noticed the thread on the bottom hem was coming loose (you can see it in the below picture). Therefore, I made the tough decision to return it since for $48 I expected better quality.

Overall thoughts

Overall, I did like this box but, I do have to admit that this month’s items were a bit expensive for me. That being said, the style of clothing in my first fix didn’t disappoint at all.  Sure, I didn’t keep any of the items this time around, however, I know that my stylist will continue to work on sending me clothes that will work for me.  It might take a few months to really accomplish their task of matching my style with my budget, however, I have faith that eventually this will be a great box for me.  I am not the type of person that enjoys trying clothes on, so the fact that I can try these items in the comfort of my home is very attractive to me.  Also, I like that I can skip months or change my fix frequency as often as I would like.  I am already looking forward to seeing what April’s fix has in store for me.
