My skin has been an annoyance since my early teens.  I always thought my skin would calm down in my 30’s but, boy was I wrong.  I have tried pretty much every over the counter treatment on the market.  Every once in awhile I will find a product that clears my skin momentarily, only to have the problem spots re-offend the following month.  It drives me crazy trying to stay one step ahead.  So when we were approached to review the Dermala FOBO (fear of breaking out) box I jumped at the chance.

The packaging as a whole was incredible.  I loved how the compact Navigator folded up and was double-sided for maximum use of space.  It was really neat how the colors on the navigator also corresponded to the product packaging so it was clear on which step belonged to which item.  All of the packagings looked very professional and high quality too.  With all this attention paid to the outside of the products, I figured the products themselves wouldn’t disappoint.

Cleanse With Benefits

I like the scent of this AM/PM Cleanser, it has a citrus scent but isn’t super overwhelming.  It seems to work really well, although without the exfoliation beads that I’m used to having in my cleanser I feel like I’m missing something.  Over the course of 14 days, each time I used this item my skin did feel squeaky clean afterward and I didn’t notice a drying effect from this product.

Scantily Pad

These scantily pads remind me of a product I used as a teenager to dry up problem spots overnight.  To be honest, I didn’t even remember the name of the old product that I used back then, and I had forgotten how well they worked.  Much like the old product I used in the late 90s, these pads dried up problem spots within hours.  In my excitement, I made the mistake of initially using the pads on my whole face the first few nights.  Needless to say, my skin was nearly cracking before I realized what I had done.  Read directions, lesson learned.  Once I used the proper way, I was really happy with the results.

Supplemeant to Be

These supplements are meant to get your body in check, healthy insides and healthy outside.  However, here is where I deviated from the treatment plan.  After using the supplements for the first few days,  my stomach was extremely upset.  I can’t be 100% sure that the supplements are to blame, however, I stopped taking them just in case.

Patch Me (If You Can)

I had a horrible pimple the day I opened my Dermala box and was stoked to try one of these pads on it.  I had however picked at it throughout the day, I know…bad girl…I can’t help myself.  These are meant to be placed on unpicked pimples in order to soak up oils and clear a pimple away.  I have to say, these are pretty cool.  The first patch I tried cleared that huge pimple overnight.  I am happy to have these on hand for blemishes that come up.

Dermala Acne Tracker App

Another cool feature that Dermala offers is their free app.  It offers tips for clearer skin based on a short quiz and or pictures of your skin.  The more you update it the more personalized they can make your next kit.

Overview and Results

After 14 days of use, here are my final results, with no filters or makeup.  Although I didn’t notice as big of a difference as I was hoping, I do notice that my skin tone is more even and a bit brighter than before.  I also need to take into account the fact the 14 days feel right around the holiday which means I wasn’t eating as healthy as I normally do.  Also, like any change in a skincare routine, it can take time to notice a big difference.  The only thing I would like to see would be a moisturizer added into future boxes,  Even once I was using all products properly (minus the supplements that I didn’t take), my skin was becoming a bit dry in several areas.  The app mentioned using a moisturizer geared toward acne-prone skin, however, it would be nice to have some on hand that would work well with the kit that I’m already using.  I plan to continue using the rest of the products and updating my after pictures one more time when done.  Overall, I can see how this would be a great subscription box.  Sometimes taking care of our skin gets kicked to the back burner.  Getting a monthly box of skincare products would ensure that my skin is still well taken care of.

UPDATE 1/30/19: I have used the rest of the face wash now, I’m right at about 45 days of usage, and I do see an improvement in my skin tone, I still get little blemishes here and there but that is mainly hormonal and expected for my
