I consider myself a crafty person, an “old soul” if you will. Growing up I remember making my first quilt at sixteen years old and constantly scrapbooking my latest adventures. Since having my son five years ago, I have fallen out of my crafting ways a bit. Therefore was excited when we were invited to review the Makerly Crafts subscription box. I felt like this would be my push to get back into a hobby that I have loved for so long.
Upon opening the box, I was delighted to see everything organized in bags with labels attached. I was a little deterred when I saw that the monthly project involved hand stitching. Hand stitching has always been my kryptonite. As crafty as I am, I have never mastered this skill. Still, I went in with an open mind.
I wasn’t thrilled with the project since the thought of a mounted bunny head seemed a little out of the ordinary, but it still looked pretty cutesy. Although I knew this craft would be a bit of a battle for myself I was excited to see how I did on it. The instructions were very thorough so I figured I was in good hands.
Along with the instructions the kit included templates needed to complete this craft.
Every material that was needed for this craft was also included in our box. No need to run to the store to get needles or miscellaneous items. I really loved how items were bagged and labeled, which made it easy to find what I needed for the next steps.
After cutting out all the templates I thought I had a great handle on the project. However, I’ll admit that it was all downhill after that. I couldn’t figure out how to pin the material that I had cut out to match the directions. After spending an hour trying different ways I ended up putting the materials back in the box. One day I’ll give it another try.
This is what the craft should look like when completed.
Overall
The fact that there is a subscription box made just for crafters warms my heart. The thing I wonder about is if I am alone on being someone that loves to craft however has aversions to certain sorts of crafting. That being said, I can vouch for the fact that this subscription box was very well thought out with the templates, directions, and included materials. Even though this specific box was a bust for me, I wouldn’t hesitate to order a subscription for Makerly Crafts.
