Background

I used the Proactiv system back in my 20’s and had great results with them.  Unfortunately, I ended up canceling my membership when I needed to reduce my spending.  Over the years I have hopped around to different face cleansers, basically cut out toners, as well as moisturizers.  I didn’t realize how important each step of skincare really was until recently and just figured I had “bad skin”.  After struggling with acne-prone skin my entire adult life, I was excited to give Proactiv another try.  Last month I tried (and reviewed) ProactivMD, which ended up being a bit too powerful for my sensitive skin.  So, Proactiv asked to send me the original formula that I have had luck with in the past, to see if my skin still responds well to that formula.  I want to mention, that my skin this past month has been pretty clear, I’m thinking the lack of makeup I’ve been using while in isolation has helped a lot.  The main blemishes that I will be looking to solve with this kit, will be the area around my mouth and chin as that is the only problem area I’ve had this month.

Steps Included

Included in the Original Proactiv kit is the Renewing Cleanser, Revitalizing Toner, Repair Treatment, and a Detox Hydrogel Face Mask.  Opening the bottle of cleanser brought me back to my 20’s, as the smell of the cleanser hasn’t changed at all.  The clay-like texture combined with the gritty feeling makes my face feel incredibly clean after using it.  I realize I miss using the Proactiv toner for a long time, so I was excited to use it again.  The formula makes my skin and pores look and feel so much tighter, and the refreshing feeling is hard for me to describe any other way.  Lastly, the Repair Treatment helps with treating acne.  Since I have very sensitive skin, I used it mainly as a spot treatment.   Right away, the cream would feel like it was drying the acne from the outside.  Within about a day, I began to notice the blemishes starting to disappear.  One thing I noticed for myself was that the skin around the blemish would become very dry for about three days after use; therefore I only used this cream when I really felt it was necessary.  The last item that came in our box was the Detox Hydrogel Face Mask.  This was my favorite item in the box!  It was so nice and refreshing on my face and I love the gel feeling.  Since the mask came in two pieces, it fits better than other masks I have tried in the past.  Hands down, I would order more of these masks to use, however at $12 per mask I would probably only be able to justify using them on a monthly basis.

Overall

This is the Proactiv Kit that I know and love.  It isn’t just the nostalgia, but the way the system works for me.  Even with my sensitive skin, I’m able to use the cleanser and the toner on a daily basis without any drying or other negative side effects.  I should mention that there isn’t a moisturizer included, which I think is different from when I used the system in my 20’s.  I ended up using Tarte Drink of H2O and that seemed to help keep my face nice and soft.  The security of knowing my acne will be under control is well worth the price tag of $20 per month.  While my skin didn’t seem to need a ton of help this month, that isn’t normally the case, so I’m excited to keep up my Proactiv routine and keep my skin blemish-free!
