I am the type of person that loves making stuff.  Crafting day?  Sign me up.  Making slime with my son?  I’m here for it!  Really anything that I can create I get excited about.  So when Simply Earth reached out to tell me about their essential oil recipe box I was intrigued.  I have to say my interest wasn’t immediate since at first, I thought it was recipes, as in food, made from essential oils…which isn’t something I would be interested in.   I did some research and realized their box is more about making everyday items for personal care and household uses.  Now I am excited!

Bonus Box

The first month (and every 6 months after) you are sent a Bonus Box along with the monthly Simply Earth box.  The bonus box contains carrier oils, coconut oil, beeswax, and the containers that you will need for the next six month’s recipes.  First I will go over the contents of the bonus box, then will move onto the monthly recipe box.

Our bonus box was full of inserts.  Simply Earth clearly put a lot of thought into the information that a new subscriber would like to see.

Personally, I thought that was a genius idea on cutting down on waste.  Sure, they could send a little bit of coconut oil each month for the recipes.  But think, that would mean a new container each month for the coconut oil, instead of one large container once a month that will last for several boxes.  See the pictures below to get a better idea of what came in our Bonus Box.

Essential Oil Recipe Box

Now moving on to our box within the bonus box.  The monthly recipes were what I was most excited about.  I couldn’t wait to see what I would be making this month!

Much like the bonus box, this box included a lot of inserts as well.  I really liked that the backs of the recipe cards were used for more information since that cut down a bit on paper waste.  It is neat that they give a portion of their proceeds to a charity, this month they choose The Daughter Project.  Click through the pictures below to see all of the recipe cards, inserts, and labels for the recipes we will be making.

Also included in the recipe box was most of the items that we will need to make the above-mentioned recipes.  I do want to point out that not everything needed is included in the box, that was something that surprised me.  Many of the additional items that were needed weren’t ones that I had on hand at the time of this review.  That being said, I will write about the recipes that I was able to make to date, and I will come back and update this review in the future once I have a chance to gather the rest of the ingredients.

Lime and Eucalyptus Roll On

I choose to complete this recipe right after opening the box.  Since it was a simple mix into the roller container I figured it would be perfect to complete quickly.  It took me only about 2 minutes before I had my homemade roll on.  I was so excited to use it.  The roller bottle had a different idea though and choose not to cooperate right away.  I decided to dump the mixture into another bottle and see if I could get it to work.  Overall I tried 3 different roller bottles and I couldn’t get any of them to work unless I rubbed very hard with my thumb.  I’m wondering if I need to let the oil loosen them up the next few days.

Tranquility and Lime Diffuser Blend

I am ashamed to say that I don’t have a diffuser in my home so I wasn’t able to use this particular recipe.  Nevertheless, I did mix the oils together to get an idea of the scent and I really liked it.  So, I ended up making another roll-on (like the above recipe) with this combination of oils.  One can never have too many roll-on bottles around!  Now if I could only get these bottles to cooperate with me.

Eucalyptus Shower Steamers

I have just recently started using shower steamers.  So I was pretty excited to get a chance to make some for myself.  This recipe my son helped me out and he thought it was cool to pretend to be a chemist.  One thing that tripped me up was that the ingredients called for the dried lavender flowers, yet the recipe itself never mentioned when to mix them in.  I opted to leave them out since I didn’t see a real purpose to add them in.  I made slightly larger steamers than what was intended, however, I really just used the molds I had handy at the time.  I was thrilled to try them out!  While they weren’t photo-worthy, they did work very well.

Overall

Simply Earth is the perfect box for all people who are into the DIY scene or who just really like essential oils.  The recipes are fairly easy to make without past experience, which is good for someone like me that is new to this type of subscription box.  Also, sending the bonus box every six months shows amazing forethought from Simply Earth that I really value.  The only improvement I could suggest is making sure to include all ingredients for the recipes.  It did through me off when I noticed that I didn’t have everything that was needed to complete all the fun projects.  However, overall I was happy with this box and am excited to see more from them in the future.
