Unboxing type: A Deodorant

Aluminum-free deodorant is definitely not a new concept, at least to myself, although I don’t know much about the science behind it. I know switching can have better health benefits so I think it’s great subscriptions exist out there such as type: A. If I’m being completely honest, it’s just not on my priority list right now to switch.  I am a creature of habit and I enjoy buying the same things I like. That’s a blessing and a curse.

I thought this welcome note was so thoughtful! I love little things like this and it makes me feel good to receive them when I sign up for a subscription.

Included with the deodorant was also this helpful pamphlet. Inside it not only explains how type: A works and why you should choose them but, it also gives a back story on the company and how they created this product. I like the idea of a cream deodorant. I’ve honestly never used one before so I was very excited to try this out.

The list comparing this deodorant to others was nice to see. Since I’m not extremely familiar with why aluminum-free is better, this was helpful for someone like myself. After looking at type: A’s website, I can easily see how a natural deodorant is a way to go. If you’re slathering and applying harsh chemicals and deodorant with aluminum into your pores, that can become unhealthy in the long run.

I am quite fortunate that I don’t tend to sweat a lot unless I’m completing a heavy workout. However, when I am working out, that’s definitely when I need to use this the most! Unfortunately, I’ve been battling the flu and finally recovering so I was not able to replicate a workout to test the deodorant out but, I did some simple exercises to see if this would past my smell tests.

type: A Deodorant Wipes

Wow, I’m impressed by these. I’ve tried similar versions but, honestly they never really felt worth the price since they did about the same job as a baby wipe.  I’ve been showering in the evening lately so I decided to test these out in the morning to see if they would freshen me up throughout the day. Upon opening one up, the refreshing citrus smell was delightful. I wiped down my arms and legs and I had a strong sensation of feeling clean without even showering. I even could get random whiffs of the scent throughout the day as I was at home working. I could use something like this to keep in my gym bag to freshen up before I’m able to get home and take a shower. These can be purchased on their website for $11.99. They’re made up of similar ingredients and are also aluminum-free.

Now for the actually deodorant itself, I was excited to try all of these scents out. Since I liked the citrus scent so much with the deodorant wipes, I decided to try that one out first.

The Visionary: Clean Crisp Citron smells amazing. Normally I’m not a huge fan of citrus scents because they can sometimes induce migraines but this one had such a natural smell that it did not bother me one bit. I applied some in the evening after my shower, and then when I woke up in the morning and it left me feeling odor-free. I was somewhat worried that it would stain my clothes but, there were zero issues.

The Achiever: Ocean Mist was hands down a favorite of mine. It has a pretty strong minty smell but, also has a mixture of saltwater in it – like being at the ocean. Since I love the smell of being at the beach and the ocean, this put me in a happy place.  I will caution that if anyone has any strong aversions to scents, this particular one may not be the best suited for you. I did some light exercises around my home and I still could smell the scent of the deodorant even though I did work up a tiny sweat. It will be interesting trying this one out once I’m back in full swing.

The Dreamer: White Foral Linen, while the smell was pleasant, it was probably my least favorite. I am not a huge floral fan so that’s probably why. Just like the others this left me smelling great all day and did not stain or get all over my clothing.

Overall Thoughts

I think this is a really cool subscription and I believe it’s one that’s worth subscribing to. I love that there are different schedules for subscriptions since someone who works out may need more deodorant than someone who lives a more sedentary lifestyle. I also find that comparing the price of this to deodorant you find it stores, there really isn’t a huge/overwhelming difference. With what’s going on right now with the pandemic, this is also one of those items that can make life simpler and not something to worry about running out of and having to go buy. I also like how the packaging of the product is addressed on their website. It was one of my thoughts immediately upon seeing it since it’s an active goal of mine to use less plastic. However, their explanation of recycled plastic makes a lot of sense and they did explain that they’re working on repackaging to leave less of a carbon footprint which I more than appreciate.
