This month’s theme is “Celebrate Sakura Season”, which is described on the Bokksu website as:

“We’ve curated a delicious box to enjoy at your hanami flower-vieing. Sakura is the star of some of our selections, while others are all choices we’d gladly bring to our hanami party. Even if there are no cherry trees where you live, we invite you to join us this month as we celebrate the beauty of nature all around us.”

At first glance, I love everything about this month’s box.  The gorgeous box is one that I will be able to easily reuse around the house.  And what better theme for the start of Spring than Flower Viewing?  Like a lot of you, I’m mainly working from home these days.  Last week I started to notice all the flowers blooming around my yard, that I hadn’t really noticed in the past.  With all the stress this year, I have found focusing on the beauty around me helps to recenter myself during this uncertain time.  A box full of snacks that I can enjoy while taking in the magnificence around me is something I needed more than I knew.

My family and I always look forward to the Bokksu box arriving on our doorsteps.  We make a ritual of tasting each snack together and learning more about its origins and discussing what we think about them all.  Another thing we love about the Bokksu box is the page in their mini-mag that teaches up Japanese.  We are able to learn a little about the language while we learn about the snacks!  Does that count as a homeschool lesson? Asking for a friend.

Sweet Treats

If you have been reading our blog for a while, then you know I am a sugar addict.  Pretty much anything that is sweet, I like.  So it is always hard for me to “judge” sweet treats for review.  Since my family tastes everything with me, I try to rely a lot on their thoughts on each item, to ensure I’m not giving a biased review.  There wasn’t an item in this month’s box that I didn’t like.  I would reorder each and every snack.  That being said, my son liked all of them with the expectation of the Mochi Puffs, my husband doesn’t like the puffs either.  My husband, the picky eater in the family, loved the waffle and the Handmade Sakura Candy.  He asked me to order more of both of those items.  I have to agree with the Sakura Candy, they are beautiful and delicious!

Savory Treats

There weren’t nearly as many savory snacks in this month’s box then I would have expected.  However, again…I have a sweet tooth, so I was ok with that.  I personally really like the Seaweed Tempura and Shrimp Chips Mix.  The tangy flavor was nicely offset with saltiness.  We decided to save the bag of Stick Potatoes since I had already tried those in a previous Bokksu Box.  I can tell you that they taste a lot like salt and vinegar chips, which I love!  Lastly, the Dondon Yaki were fried golden nuggets of deliciousness.  All three of the three savory snacks were the perfect treat while I was binge-watching The Tiger King.

Spring Gold Green Tea

This Spring has been weird in the PNW.  It has been much colder than I’m used to, so brewing some hot tea is always a treat.  I love green tea since it has a calming flavor and still gives me a much-needed caffeine boost.  I really liked the packaging of this tea, the Spring design made me smile.  My son commented on how pretty it was too.  The overall taste was very smooth.  The flavor was true to typically green tea.

Overall

Bokksu box is without a doubt my favorite snack box to receive.  At first, I figured I might bore of the snacks over time, however, this is my fourth box and I still get giddy when I see my tracking information come through.  I really like that they set a theme and stick by it all the way through, from the box to the snacks.  And their limited-edition boxes are strong enough to upcycle and use around the house.  I highly recommend this box to everyone that will listen.  If you are thinking about subscribing, head to their website, and check out what the next theme is, typically they also list what snacks will be included, so you can see if you think it will be a good fit for you!
