If you have been a reader of our blog for a while, then you know that we both tend to at least attempt to lead a healthy lifestyle.  We, however, are humans and stray from time to time.  Being a mother who works outside (and inside, let’s be real) the home, I don’t always have time to pack and map out meal plans for myself.  Packing healthy lunches for my son is a no brainer, but packing lunches for myself seems too tedious most days.  Why is that?  Anyways, when we were approached to review Personal Trainer Foods, I figured I had nothing to lose…except maybe a few inches in my waist.  To see how our box arrived, please view our full unboxing video posted below.

CONTENTS

As you can see, all items came well packaged with dry ice and were still frozen after sitting on my porch all day.   I will pre-warn anyone thinking about buying this box, make room in your freezer before the delivery date! I made the mistake of way underestimating how much room I would need to store all of the packets.  Also in the box was a list of the included foods, an instruction magazine, and recipe cards.  And as a bonus, since this is our first box from Personal Trainer Foods, they included a handy insulated lunch tote, a water bottle, and a tape measure to help track progress.  At this point, I’m sure most of you are wondering, “But how did the food taste?!” So, let’s get into that now.

BREAKFASTS

Let’s preface this by saying, I didn’t have high hopes for the breakfast options.  I am a pretty light eater in the morning and generally stick to a hardboiled egg.  So looking at packs and packs of frozen eggs that I would be microwaving for two weeks didn’t look too appealing at first.  After enjoying almost the full two weeks of breakfast options, I have to admit that I was wrong.  I don’t think I will be able to go back to my hard-boiled egg routine.  My favorite breakfast was hands down the Frittata Omelet & Maple Sausage.  However, all of the ones included in my box were amazing.  While I’m not going to overload you with pictures of every single breakfast, see the below slideshow for a few that I really enjoyed.   And yes, I’m aware all of my pictures include the maple sausage, but it was THAT good.

ENTRÉES

I knew the real value for me would lie in the entrees.  Since that is where I struggle on a daily basis.  Lunch during my workweek can vary from perfectly packed and extremely healthy too, “well, I forgot a lunch so I guess I’ll eat a candy bar and call it a day!”  There is no in-between for me.  While unboxing, like with the breakfast options, I was thinking the food didn’t look amazing…however with reading the names of the entrees got me pretty excited.  I mean teriyaki chicken that I can enjoy without guilt?  Sign me up!  Once again, I was blown away at the quality and taste of these packets.  I would never expect to have this good of food served from the freezer.  My favorite entrees included the Teriyaki Chicken, Diced Chicken Thigh, and the Spicey Breaded Chicken Breast.  See the below slideshow for a sample of what I was eating for lunches and dinners.

VEGETABLES

I pretty much love all vegetables, including frozen varieties.  So I pretty much knew these packs would be right up my alley.  Not only am I a huge fan of veggies, but my son is also as well.  He was pretty excited to give some of these blends a try.  Every dinner he would have me split the veggies with him, and what Mom doesn’t like to have her kid ASK for vegetables?  See the above pictures of various veggies that we were munching on.  Also included in the box was a bottle of Garlic Butter Sauce to use on the vegetables.  We aren’t huge butter eaters, so I only tried it once.  It was very good, however, I generally opted to leave it off.

MY RESULTS

While this review is strictly written from a quality, taste, and value standpoint, I did also end up having good results while sticking to the plan.  Unfortunately, I didn’t take measurements, and while the instructions tell you not to weigh yourself, I couldn’t help but see how the scale was moving.  In the end, I lost 5 pounds in the 2 weeks and felt incredible.  My waist seemed to shrink which made my smile grow!  But back to the review.

OVERALL

The quality and taste of the food were better than I ever expected, every meal I tried was delicious and tasted very fresh.  As far as value goes, the box I received normally is priced at $274 for 14 days.  If you are doing that math that comes to $19.57/day, or $6.52 per meal.  That is a decent price for the quality of food that I received.  I noticed over the course of writing the review, that they offer 30% off your first box, which brings down the price to $191.80/14 days, or $4.57/meal.   Now that is a price point that I can’t argue with.  With several options to choose from, including an option to pick out which food you want to be delivered, I have to say that I’m sold on Personal Trainer Food!  I, however, will take my own advice and make sure to clear out my freezer before my next shipment.
